Welcome to the final week—week ten of our Summer 2020 Book Club-Style Bible Study--She Loves Truth.

Proverbs 31 is a beautiful picture of a strong woman who intentionally instills God’s wisdom into the everyday practice of her life.

She is clothed with strength and dignity. She can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom. She has faithful instruction on her tongue.

She watches over the affairs of her household well. She does not eat the bread of idleness. Proverbs 31:29 tells us, "Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all."

It all boils down to this one thing—she is a woman who fears the Lord.

This summer, we are looking for truth in a 10-week study of the book of Proverbs. Let’s seek truth together and record what we find because She Loves Truth!

So far, we've looked at Proverbs 1-3: Trust in the Lord, Proverbs 4-6: Practical Truths For Living, Proverbs 7-9: The Blessings of Wisdom, Proverbs 10-12: Truths to Help You Thrive. Proverbs 13-15: Wisdom and Truth, Proverbs 16-18: Watch this!, Proverbs 19-21: Prudent, Not Quarrelsome, Proverbs 22-24: Using Our Time Wisely, and Proverbs 25-27: Are My Words Fitly Spoken. This week we'll be studying Proverbs 28-31: But a Woman Who Fears the Lord.

But a Woman Who Fears the Lord…

We can’t finish out Proverbs without taking a good look at the Proverbs 31 Woman. What makes this woman so impressive that a king would write about her. Who is she and how can we be like her?

"She is far more precious than jewels" (31:10).
"The heart of her husband trusts in her" (31:11).
"She does her husband good and not harm" (31:12).
"She seeks wool and flax and works with willing hands" (31:13).
"She brings her food from afar" (31:14).
"She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household" (31:15).
"She considers a field, buys it, and with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard" (31:16).
"She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong" (31:17).
"She perceives her merchandise is profitable and her lamp does not go out at night" (31:18).
"She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out to the needy" (31:20).
"All her household are clothed in scarlet" (31:21).
"She makes bed coverings and clothing of fine linen and purple for herself" (31:22).
"She makes linen garments and sells them" (31:24).
"Strength and dignity are her clothing" (31:25).
"She opens her mouth with wisdom and the teaching of kindness" (31:26).
"She looks well to the ways of her household and is not idle" (31:27).
"Her children and husband call her blessed and praise her" (31:28)
"She surpasses all the other women" (31:29).
"She fears the Lord" (31:30).

This woman is impressive! She’s got her juggling act going on! I’m not sure how she does it all, but I suspect her life hinges on verse 30: “Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised” (31:30).

If we start there, “…but a woman who fears the Lord…” I think the rest of the puzzle will be much easier to put together. Today, and every day, let’s be that woman who fears the Lord! Let’s start there and see if that doesn’t help us out with the rest of this impressive list of traits.

I like to say of this woman that she didn't do all this in a day. That relives some of the pressure. :-) But I agree, the most important part is fearing the Lord--everything else flows from there.

Patsy, I love Pro. 31. I read it as a biography of a life well-lived. She fears the Lord, and the Lord says she'll be praised. Isn't that amazing?

It is amazing, Debbie! And it is a well-lived live because she chose to fear the Lord. I feel challenged when I read it, but at the same time, I feel encouraged that God would include in His love letter to us a chapter specifically for us! :)

I am so in love with the Proverbs 31 woman because she depicts the true role of women, particularly in Jewish life. She was not the picture of the "barefoot and pregnant" wife (although nothing wrong with barefoot and pregnant...I did it 7 times LOL) but she was a true leader of the family. While the man is the spiritual head, she was definitely strong, capable and a force to be reckoned with. The word "virtuous" is chayil and means strong like an army! She was no weak woman!!
