As a Christian, there are often times when the commands of Scripture seem almost impossible to follow. This is especially true when it comes to what God’s Word tells us about forgiveness.

People wound and hurt us. Sometimes those hurts are simple slights or offenses that can be easily mended with a conversation and a genuine apology. However, there are all too many occasions when there are serious and hurtful wrongs that cut deeply and lead to pain, sorrow, damaged relationships, and bitterness. When we find ourselves dealing with these kinds of hurts, it is difficult to imagine how we can follow God’s call to offer free and full forgiveness.

Is it even possible? In my life, I've experienced this kind of questioning and uncertainty.

Several years ago, I heard a sermon by Steve Anderson, a field administrator with Baptist World Mission, in which he delineated seven times that the Bible states, “God is not….”

I have spent countless hours studying what the Bible says God is and how His character is revealed through His Word, but I had never considered the clear statements that declare what God is not.

Over the next three blog posts that I write for InstaEncouragements, (third Friday of each month) I plan to share with you these seven statements and how they should challenge us as believers in our walk with the Lord. Since every Word of God is true and we know all of God’s Word (including these specific statements) has been given to us for our learning, (2 Timothy 3:16) let’s see what important truths we can glean and learn from these statements.

Some people pride themselves on their disregard for what others think. As someone who has never felt confident declaring “I don’t care what people think,” I have often wondered if this characteristic is genuine.

​Do people with this professed attitude really not care about the opinions of the people around them, or do they just say that to receive praise? 

I don’t really have an answer to that question, but in my own personal experience, other people’s opinions of me, when positive, can result in a burst of positive emotions:

• Satisfaction
• Gratitude
• Positivity
• Productivity
• Confidence ​

Recently, during a summer Bible study that I am currently participating in, the ladies and I began discussing the current culture and its very aggressive agenda in regards to absolute truth and biblical living. The group is a mix of ages ranging from young thirties to almost fifty. Our children’s ages range from twenty-somethings to infants.

We covered a few specifics in our time together that have still been running through my mind during my prayer and Bible study time. I'd love to know your thoughts, and how God is using these types of conversations in your motherhood journey.
