Using Our Time Wisely
Today, as I read this passage I am struck by the words to the wise about how we are to use our time.
In chapter 22, I see a worrier, a person who is hunkered down in their comfort zone and afraid to venture out into the unknown because of potential dangers. “The sluggard says, ‘There is a lion outside! I shall be killed in the streets!’” (Proverbs 22:13)
I have often said, “Good things are waiting for you, friend, just outside your comfort zone—things you never dreamed possible. And the best thing is, God is waiting to meet you there!”
In chapter 24, we see an emphasis on building our homes with wisdom and understanding, “…by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches” (24:4).
We need strength to be all that God has called us to be and this passage tells us that strength is found in knowledge, guidance, and good counsel. “By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might, for by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory.” (Proverbs 24:3-6)
What happens if we are not diligent about our work? “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man” (24:34).
“Prepare your work outside; get everything ready for yourself in the field, and after that build your house…. I passed by the field of a sluggard, by the vineyard of a man lacking sense, and behold, it was all overgrown with thorns; the ground was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down. Then I saw and considered it; I looked and received instruction. A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.” (Proverbs 24:27-34)
I don’t want to be a woman that lacks sense. I’m sure you don’t either. Let’s ask God for wisdom today so that we use our time wisely.

Proverbs is so convicting about diligence and time management, as well motivation and attitude. I'm continually seeking the right balance between work and rest.

Proverbs 22:13, never thought of that verse about a worrier, but yes, I now see it.

It's a verse about a worrier, Teresa, AND an excuse maker, or both. :)

This spring and summer, I've realized that one of my most insidious time-wasters is planning. That's a trap, but I'm working on and I appreciate this encouragement!

Patsy, looking at Proverbs 24:3-6, I see how the writer appeals to the masculine and feminine readers with image of establishing a home and going to war. Wisdom is always needed.

Wisdom is the prayer God always answers, and the main one I can't live w/o! Banking on my own gets me into trouble every time. Tweeted.
