David's Second Goliath

When we think of #David in the #Bible, quite possibly the first story we recall about him is him killing #Goliath. It’s memorable, for sure! But did you know that David faced more than one Goliath? Most people don't know that David actually fought two giants named Goliath. He also fought many other giants in his lifetime as well. If you're growing #weary of #facinggiants again and again, if you find yourself somewhere on the timeline of a #grief journey, I've got a #book for you!! #Biblestudy

Most people don't know that David actually fought two giants named Goliath. He also fought many other giants in his lifetime as well.

In 2 Samuel 21, we find Israel at war with the Philistines again, and again there are giants! David was older now. Verse 15, tells us that David grew weary. He was weary, most likely because he was not a young teen any longer. He may have also been weary because of his continual battle against the Philistines. And no doubt, he was weary because of the giants in his life. Sometimes, there are giants in our lives that we only have to face once. One and done. Other times, like David, there are giants that we have to face over and over and over again.

What it's Like to Walk Through the Fire

1/3/2023

Some of you know what it’s like to walk through the firey triles of life. Some of you have walked that walk. You may be walking that walk today. I’m not sure how anyone walks the walk through the fire alone, without #God. In Daniel 1, we meet Daniel and his three friends--Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Let’s remember how God is also with us through any “fiery furnace” we walk through.
This past Fall, while I was reading through the Bible with the Sweeter Than Honey Bible reading plan and devotional, on September 12, I came to Daniel chapters 1-3.

There, in Daniel 1, we read about what it's like to walk through the fire—literally.

From Sweeter Than Honey: Some of you know what it’s like to walk through the fire. Some of you have walked that walk. You may be walking that walk today. I’m not sure how anyone walks the walk through the fire alone, without God. In Daniel 1, we meet Daniel and his three friends— Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, or better known as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. The Bible tells us that these four boys were “youths without blemish, of good appearance and skillful in all wisdom, endowed with knowledge, understanding learning, and competent to stand in the king's palace” (Daniel 1:4).

Sweeter Than Honey: Silence in Heaven

12/27/2022

#Revelation 6 is dedicated to the first 6 of 7 Seals. Then John writes of the 144k and a great multitude from every nation before writing about the final, 7th Seal in chapters 8-10. The 7 Seals are terrifying to read. The 7th is accompanied by 7 trumpets. Much of this is difficult for us to understand, and we are not meant to understand it all. What caught my attention about the opening of this 7th Seal was the “silence in Heaven for about half an hour” afterward. #7seals #sevenseals #prophecy
From the Old Testament to the New, the eternality of God's Word is clearly proclaimed:

Job tells us, “I have treasured the Words of His mouth more than my portion of food” (Job 23:12).

Isaiah reminds us that, “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of our God endures forever” (Isaiah 40:8).

And Matthew records Jesus saying, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My Words will never pass away” (Matthew 24:35).

God's Word is like an eternal Love Letter to us!

Have you ever received a love letter, friend? Did you read it? Did you read it just once, or did you read it over and over again? A Love Letter is a treasure when you love the One who sent it!

I just want to share this exciting news with you so you can begin thinking and praying about it. I shared this with the girls in the Sweeter Than Honey Fall Zoom get-together. I think December is the best time of year to share the Gospel, and 7 days in the Gospel of John is a great pathway to a relationship with Jesus Christ!

Seeing and Savoring Christ at Christmas

12/2/2022

As I sit writing this, we are only days away from the start of a new #Advent season, and by the time this is posted it will have already begun. While we ought to dwell on the magnificence and mystery of Christ’s incarnation throughout the whole year, it is at this special time, that we as #believers should be completely captivated by its significance and meaning in our lives. Make time to see and savor #Christ this #Christmas and experience Advent with true #joy, awe, and wonder. #Jesus #holiday

While we ought to dwell on the magnificence and mystery of Christ’s incarnation throughout the whole year, it is at this special time, that we as believers should be completely captivated by its significance and meaning in our lives.

This can be one of the busiest times of the year for many of us. As we bustle about with church and family gatherings, concerts, shopping, baking, travel, and a host of other activities, we can quickly find ourselves worn out with little thought given to considering what this season is all about. While the fun, parties, gifts, and music are wonderful parts of Christmas, they are not the Thing itself, and we can easily do ourselves and our children a great disservice by not setting aside time to contemplate Christ and wonder at His coming.
