Sitting In Sorrow

6/5/2026

Sitting in Sorrow is a Christian blog post on grief, loss, and biblical comfort, drawing from Job 2 and John 11. It explores how to support grieving loved ones with presence over platitudes, avoid harmful clichés, and trust God’s sovereignty without minimizing pain. Learn practical ways to “weep with those who weep,” embrace the ministry of presence, and navigate suffering with faith, compassion, and hope in Christ.
A couple of weeks ago, my best friend lost her brother to cancer. It was a short but intense battle. And while there is some relief at knowing he is no longer suffering and is enjoying the glories of Heaven and his Savior, it comes as no surprise that there is still immense grief and pain for his family and friends he has left behind.

Over the past weeks, my friend and I have had many conversations about loss, grief, and the things people say when they don't know what else to say. It hasn't surprised me how often well-intentioned words—even words that may be theologically true—have landed poorly. Instead of bringing comfort, they sometimes deepen the pain, placing expectations on grieving people before they've had the chance to simply mourn.

“He is in a better place.”
“Everything happens for a reason.”

5 Principles to Follow as You Look to God’s Plan

1/23/2026

Discover 5 biblical principles to follow as you seek God’s plan instead of your own. This encouraging Christian blog post explores trusting God when plans change, surrendering control, overcoming worry, and growing in faith through life transitions. Rooted in Scripture like Proverbs 16:9 and Proverbs 3:5-6, it offers hope and guidance for navigating unexpected change, ministry shifts, family crises, and seasons of uncertainty with confidence in God’s will.
I don’t know what your tradition is at the start of a new year, but I often spend some time looking back at the year that has passed and considering what God has done while I anticipate the year ahead and what God will do. This year was no different in that regard, but it was unique in the circumstances for me.

Last year, I was able to spend Christmas and New Year’s with missionary friends in Italy. As I left Italy early in January 2025, I asked the Lord what He had planned for me in 2025. I had plans for the ministry in England, and for enlarging my influence with other ministries the Lord had opened for me as well. I never expected to be sitting here one year later, making plans to leave my ministry in England, which I love with all my heart, to move to another foreign country and start all over again.

5 Acts of Faith That Will Bring You Peace
“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” Lamentations 3:25–26
In a world that prizes speed, productivity, and instant gratification, the concept of “waiting on the Lord” can feel foreign and frustrating. But in Scripture, waiting is not passive—it’s active. It’s a spiritual discipline rooted in trust, surrender, and hope.

Waiting on the Lord is not about doing nothing; it’s about believing deeply, expecting patiently, and resting confidently in the One who holds all things together. It’s in this kind of waiting that peace begins to bloom.

Today, let's look at 5 acts of faith that Scripture shows us will bring lasting peace to our hearts.

Sweeter Than Honey: Trade Weariness for Perseverance

#Discover powerful #encouragement from #Hebrews 12 and Jude as this #devotional urges #believers to trade #weariness for #perseverance. #Learn how to #endure #spiritual battles, fix your eyes on #Jesus, resist #discouragement, and stay rooted in #God’s love. A #hope-filled reminder that God strengthens every step of your #faith journey. #ChristianEncouragement #BibleStudy #Hebrews12 #BookofJude #FaithJourney #DontGrowWeary #FixYourEyesOnJesus #SpiritualEndurance #ChristianLiving #WomenInTheWord
What if we spent a few quiet moments with God each morning? What if we were intentional about making time for it? And what if we committed to doing that all year long—only to find that by the end of the year, we had read the entirety of God’s Word—His love letter to us?

How many times have you, on January 1, resolved to read the Bible from cover to cover in a year? I’ve made that commitment more times than I can count—and I’ve failed more times than I’d like to admit. But a few years ago, I tried something different. I used a one-year, chronological order of book authorship Bible Reading Itinerary.

Did you know that Genesis wasn’t the first book of the Bible written? While these plans can vary—since it’s impossible to pinpoint exact dates for some books—the plan I used began with the book of Job.

Find #hope, #purpose, and practical #guidance for #navigating every season of waiting with confidence in God’s #sovereignty and unfailing care. #BibleStudy
Last month, we began looking at this inevitable aspect of life – waiting! No one can avoid it, and very few can make it go faster. There is always something to wait for in life. Knowing that waiting is part of life can be frustrating while we sit in the doctor’s waiting room, the DMV line, or the line at the grocery store.

Maybe your waiting is for something much more important, like waiting for a loved one to trust Christ or for the Lord to answer a prayer request that you have prayed for years. Maybe you are waiting for a child to come back to Christ or for the results of a scary medical test. Maybe you are waiting for Christmas to come, or for a change in job, or a move that is on the horizon.

I could go on and on naming things we are waiting for because these scenarios are part of every aspect of our lives.

This #encouraging #Christian #devotional offers #biblical insight, spiritual strength, and a reminder of God’s unshakable #faithfulness. Whether you're battling doubt or seeking comfort, find #peace in the promise of Christ's love. Perfect for Bible study, faith-building, and deepening your walk with God. Read now for uplifting truth!
Some of the most hope-filled, identity-shaping words in all of Scripture are found in Romans 8.
"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written,

'For Your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.'

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:35–39

Do you ever find yourself overwhelmed with the “stuff” and pressure of this life? Perhaps it manifests as inner turmoil that you keep inside and try to deal with quietly, while continuing with your work and responsibilities. Maybe it finds its way to the surface and causes you fear and anxiety that at times can be crippling. Perhaps it feels more like a weight that you carry and don’t know how to find relief. Maybe it even drives you to tears and heartache that you have no idea how to deal with.

However, those struggles find their way into your life, I can imagine that we can all say we know what that pressure feels like.

Friend, can I try to help relieve your pressure today? If I could sit and listen to you share your heart and your story today, this Psalm would be one of the places I would take you.
