Watch This!
I am reminded today, how often we make our little plans and God says, “Watch this!” Let’s look at what Proverbs 16 has to say about our plans.
“The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirit. Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” (16:1-3)
I can’t tell you the number of times I have made plans, good plans, only to have to change them because God has something better planned. I could get frustrated, or I could commit my work to the Lord and allow Him to establish my plans.
I find myself saying this a lot: “What’s next, God?” I say often of myself, “I’m just a girl asking God what’s next.” It’s the truth. I have learned, over time, to hold my little plans very loosely in my hands because quite often, more often than not, God has bigger and better plans.
Again, in chapter 16 as in previous chapters of Proverbs, we are reminded of the great value of wisdom and understanding:
“How much better to get wisdom than gold! To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver. The highway of the upright turns aside from evil; whoever guards his way preserves his life. Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor than to divide the spoil with the proud. Whoever gives thought to the Word will discover good, and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord. The wise of heart is called discerning, and sweetness of speech increases persuasiveness. Good sense is a fountain of life to him who has it…” (16:16-22)
Wisdom is better than gold and understanding better than silver. Let’s give thought to the Word today and discover good. Read chapters 17-18 and record the truths you find there.

I've relied on Proverbs 16 through many decisions in life. Sometimes I get frustrated when I try to make plans under God's guidance, and then executing the plans gets interrupted. But I have to trust that God knew that was part of the plan. Even Jesus was interrupted, and took it calmly.

God has certainly used 2020 to frustrate a lot of our plans, Barbara! I like that thought —> "Even Jesus was interrupted, and took it calmly." Such a great example!

I love the clear truth of Proverbs. "“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps” (16:9) has comforted me when I'm making plans but not sure if they are right. I trust God to establish my steps in the right way.

God has definitely disrupted my plans on many an occasion. ;) Sometimes I welcomed it; other times I fought it. But I'm thankful that I can trust that every time he was right, even I didn't understand it.

2020 has been a major disruption on an atomic scale, Lisa!!! It's difficult not to get frustrated sometimes. I just have to keep reminding myself that this world is not my home and I am not the one in control here— God is!
