4 Major Prophets: God Wants His People to Flourish
"You shall see, and your heart shall rejoice; your bones shall flourish like the grass;
and the hand of the Lord shall be known to His servants…” Isaiah 66:14
and the hand of the Lord shall be known to His servants…” Isaiah 66:14
This Bible study covers four major prophets: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel. The book of Lamentations, written by the Prophet Jeremiah, is also included in the study. These prophets are called "major" not because their messages were more important. They're called major because their books are longer than the books of the "minor" prophets.
Isaiah: The book of Isaiah is the first of the major prophets. This is often considered one of the greatest books of the Bible. Isaiah prophesied about the coming of the Messiah. He also prophesied about the judgment of God and the restoration of Israel.
Jeremiah: Jeremiah was a prophet during a time of great turmoil in Israel. He warned the people about their disobedience and predicted the destruction of Jerusalem. He is often called the "weeping prophet" because of his sorrow over the sins of his people. Ezekiel: Ezekiel was a prophet during the Babylonian captivity. He prophesied about the judgment of God on Israel and the surrounding nations. He also had many visions of God's glory and power. Lamentations: Lamentations is a collection of five poems written by Jeremiah. This book was written after the fall of Jerusalem. The book expresses the grief and mourning of the Jews. They grieved and mourned over the destruction of their city and the exile of their people. Daniel: The book of Daniel is a collection of stories and prophecies from the life of Daniel. The Prophet Daniel lived during the Babylonian captivity. He interpreted dreams and visions for the Babylonian king—King Nebuchadnezzar. He also prophesied about the coming of the Messiah and the end times. |
The major prophets are known for their messages of judgment, restoration, and hope. The message of hope and the fact that God desires for His people to flourish is encouraging.
