She Loves Truth Week Three Proverbs 7-9

Welcome to week three of our Summer 2020 Book Club-Style Bible Study--She Loves Truth.

Making any decision requires a thought process. Proverbs 14:15 cautions us not to believe everything we hear. “The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps.” We can’t believe everything we hear or read. Instead, we should take our time and work through decisions with prayer. We don’t have to make decisions based on other people’s opinions. After all, what God has to say on the subject matters the most. We must be prudent and seek out the truth.

This summer, we are looking for truth in a 10-week study of the book of Proverbs. Join us each Tuesday morning at 9:00, June 2 - August 4, and let’s seek truth together and record what we find because She Loves Truth!

So far, we've looked at Proverbs 1-3: Trust in the Lord and Proverbs 4-6: Practical Truths For Living. This week we'll be studying Proverbs 7-9 and The Blessings of Wisdom.

Proverbs 7-9: The Blessings of Wisdom

Chapter 8 of the book of Proverbs speaks of the many blessing of finding wisdom. Wisdom calls to us offering prudence, discernment, common sense, and truth.

“O simple ones, learn prudence; O fools, learn sense. Hear, for I will speak noble things, and from my lips will come what is right, for my mouth will utter truth… Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.” (Proverbs 8:5-11)

Instruction is better than silver, knowledge is better than the finest gold, and wisdom is better than jewels. Nothing that you or I could ever want compares to the blessing of wisdom. Wisdom has been around since the beginning of time. God used wisdom to create the world. Proverbs records for us here that wisdom rejoiced in the inhabited world and delighted in the children of man.

"The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His work, the first of His acts of old. Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water. Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth, before He had made the earth with its fields, or the first of the dust of the world. When He established the heavens, I was there; when He drew a circle on the face of the deep, when He made firm the skies above, when He established the fountains of the deep, when He assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress His command, when He marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside Him, like a master workman, and I was daily His delight, rejoicing before Him always, rejoicing in His inhabited world and delighting in the children of man….

Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. Blessed is the one who listens to me…. For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord...” (Proverbs 8:22-36)

We are encouraged throughout the book of Proverbs to seek out wisdom and truth, be prudent, discerning, and have common sense. Wisdom calls to us here offering us these things. We are to hear the instruction of God’s Word and be wise. Do not neglect it, friend. IT IS LIFE! We are blessed by listening, reading, and taking hold of the truths wisdom has to offer us. In doing so we will find favor with God.

This call to wisdom feels out of the ordinary right now - when so many are following feelings. It's a great reminder to check my heart and be sure I'm grounded in His truth and moving forward in wisdom. Grateful!

So many of you have commented on "these times" and these truths that I feel the need to post a verse a friend just posted over on Facebook. We're not there yet in our study, but we will be soon.

"Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked." Proverbs 25:26

These times we are experiencing are nothing new. King Solomon experienced them in his generation too, and he wrote this verse that is just as relevant today as it was then.

Let's not be a "muddied spring or a polluted fountain" today and let's pray that our country does not become one as well. Pray for our leaders! Pray for the leadership in our churches. Think about this verse (and all of Proverbs for that matter) before you comment or post on social media. Pray for wisdom! Pray for God to use these times to give us the opportunity to share about Him, His redemption of our sinful selves, and His love for all mankind!

Having awesome respect for God is the beginning of wisdom, learning His truth throughout our life grows that wisdom in relationship with Him.
Proverbs is always a good book of His Word to study :-D

In our house we have a joke that it must be true it was on Facebook, lol. I have told my kids numerous times that you can not believe everything that you hear or that people tell you. Only God's word will help us discern what is truth and what is not. That is why we encourage them to read their Bibles.
