Sweeter Than Honey: Solomon Builds The Temple

8/30/2022

1 Kings 6-8 are so refreshing! After years of war, upheaval, wickedness and judgment, alas Israel is at peace with her neighbors. They have a good, wise king, a permanent place to put down roots, and King #Solomon builds the house of the Lord. Don’t miss Solomon's #prayer of dedication in 1 Kings 8, and the final verse of chapter 8 where he holds the week-long Feast of Tabernacles. 1 #Kings 8:66 records that the people of Israel went back to their homes from the feast “joyful and glad of heart.”
From the Old Testament to the New, the eternality of God's Word is clearly proclaimed:

Job tells us, “I have treasured the Words of His mouth more than my portion of food” (Job 23:12).

Isaiah reminds us that, “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of our God endures forever” (Isaiah 40:8).

And Matthew records Jesus saying, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My Words will never pass away” (Matthew 24:35).

God's Word is like an eternal Love Letter to us!

Have you ever received a love letter, friend? Did you read it? Did you read it just once, or did you read it over and over again? A Love Letter is a treasure when you love the One who sent it!

The Myth of Control

My daughter Emersyn is finishing her swim lessons for the summer. It’s been rewarding to see her progress as both her skill and #confidence have grown. As I’ve had a front-row seat to her #frustrations and #successes throughout this process, it’s reinforced to me a part of her personality that I can relate to. In one of her early #lessons, her #teacher remarked to me that our greatest hurdle in helping Emersyn become a better swimmer would be #encouraging her to give up the illusion of #control.
My daughter Emersyn is currently finishing up her swimming lessons for the summer. It’s been very rewarding to see her progress as both her skill and confidence have grown. As I’ve had a front-row seat to her frustrations and successes throughout this process, it’s reinforced to me a part of her personality that I can relate to.

In one of her early lessons, her teacher remarked to me that our greatest hurdle in helping Emersyn become a better swimmer would be encouraging her to give up the illusion of control.

As her mom, I’ve seen this struggle manifest itself in many ways — her reluctance to go down the slide at the playground, hesitation in her interactions with our new puppy, unwillingness to jump from a higher step or platform unless I am holding her hand.

Sweeter Than Honey: Ezekiel the Watchman

8/23/2022

When the #Lord speaks to #Ezekiel, in Ezekiel 33:1, and calls #Israel “your people,” this gives Ezekiel a sense of responsibility for these people. The responsibility he has for them is to be their watchman. The duty of a watchman is to warn people. If the watchman warns the people and the people hear but don't heed the warning, their blood will be on their own hands. However, if the watchman does not warn the people, their blood will be on his hands. #Biblereading #Biblestudy #devotional #Bible

Psalm 16: You Will Not Abandon My Soul

8/19/2022

Ever feel #abandoned by #God? Ever feel He's far away? Ever struggle to see Him working? Did you know God will never abandon you? He promises in His Word. He says,
Do you ever feel abandoned by God? Does He ever feel far away from you? Do you ever struggle to see Him working in your life?

Did you know that God will never abandon His beloved? He promises that in His Word. He says, "I will NEVER leave you nor forsake you," and He doesn't just say that once. He repeats that promise over and over again several times throughout His Love Letter to us.
"...be content with what you have, for He has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'" Hebrews 13:5b
Friend, are you able to honestly say today, "If God is all I have, God is enough?"

Sweeter Than Honey:  I am the Lord

8/16/2022

Twice in #Ezekiel 11, we read the “I am the #Lord” statement. The statement is closely related to His judgment and the fact that through His judgment, “you shall know that I am the Lord” (11:11). #Israel and #Judah had forgotten that. Sometimes, we forget that. Israel and Judah forgot Who #God is and trusted in the ways of the nations that surrounded them. They no longer walked in God’s statutes or obeyed His rules, but “acted according to the rules of the nations that are around“ (11:12) them.

Job tells us, “I have treasured the Words of His mouth more than my portion of food” (Job 23:12).

What Jordan Do You Need To Go Over?

8/12/2022

We' all have Jordans to cross in our lives. These are seemingly impossible challenges and the no-way-out situations we find ourselves in. You may see a Jordan in your near future-- the daunting task of being a caregiver to a terminally ill spouse or elderly parents. You may be crossing a Jordan right now--you're trying to pay off college debt or balance an out-of-control budget due to rising inflation. You may have just finished crossing a Jordan--you finally heard the end-of-chemo bell ring.
We are all going to have "Jordans" to go over in our lives at one time or another. These are the seemingly impossible challenges and the no-way-out situations we find ourselves in.

You may see a Jordan in your near future. Maybe it's the daunting task of being a caregiver to a terminally ill spouse or elderly parents. Or, you're asking yourself how you will pay college tuition for your soon-to-be high school senior.

You may be crossing a Jordan right now. Maybe you are trying to pay off college debt or balance an out-of-control budget due to rising inflation. Or, that dream job you've waited for all your life turns out not to be the dream job after all.

Or, possibly you just finished crossing a Jordan. Maybe you finally heard the end-of-chemo bell ring. Or, you've been able to purchase your forever home after months of searching.

Sweeter Than Honey: The Pride of Your Heart

8/9/2022

Jeremiah wraps up his book writing about the judgment of 6 nations--Moab, Ammon, Edom, Damascus, Kedar and Hazor, and Elam. Three of these the Lord promises to restore fortunes to--Moab, Ammon, and Elam. However, each of these nations had a pride problem. When we trust our own works, boast of what we have accomplished, choose to let fear rule our lives instead of trusting God, or live as if we don’t need Him, we have a pride problem just like these nations. #Biblereadingplan #Biblestudy #Bible
