Proverbs 13-15: Wisdom and Truth, Proverbs 16-18: Watch this!, Proverbs 19-21: Prudent, Not Quarrelsome, and Proverbs 22-24: Using Our Time Wisely. This week we'll be studying Proverbs 25-27: Are My Words Fitly Spoken.
Are My Words Fitly Spoken?
Proverbs has a lot to say about our words. They can be pleasant, or they can bring us to ruin. Proverbs 25:11 says, “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.”
“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver. Like a gold ring or an ornament of gold is a wise reprover to a listening ear. Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest is a faithful messenger to those who send him; he refreshes the soul of his masters.” (Proverbs 25:11-13)
So today, let’s ask ourselves, “Are my words fitly spoken?” Let’s ask God to put words in our mouths that are refreshing to the hearer, hope to those who need to hear hope, and truth to those who need to hear the truth, so that our mouth speaks pleasant things and not things that will bring us to ruin.

We so need to carefully weigh our words now--in the online world, in our communities, in our homes.

So true, Barbara—not just our verbal words (which is what I was thinking when I read this passage in Proverbs) but also our written words. Especially our written words! Those are so weighty right now.

Are my words fitly spoken? That's most definitely a question I need to be asking myself. Especially with those under my roof, as that can at times be a weakness for me. I get irritated and will at times, allow my emotions get the best of me. Great reminder and time to re-challenge myself in this area!

April, it is so easy to speak unfit words to those we love the most, when it seems like it should be just the opposite. It's for sure a challenge, to all of us!

Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable unto You O Lord my Strength and my Redeemer. ♥

Thank you so much for this small devotion. It really is something to realize how important our words are. I tell my kids and students, your words can speak life or speak death. Be careful what you say.

Angela, it's a reminder I needed this week. Our words matter! They matter a lot! More than we realize. "Your words can speak life or speak death. Be careful what you say." That is great advice!
