Lessons Learned in the Mundane

Have you ever wondered where David learned to fight Goliath? David’s courage and dependence on God were developed in the everyday, mundane tasks of life. He didn’t know it then but God was preparing him for this very day all of his life! David was a simple shepherd boy keeping his father’s sheep. That seems somewhat mundane, right? However, that task taught David many valuable lessons. In those fields he learned to depend on God, and he developed the courage to fight the giant Goliath. #Bible

"As he talked with them, behold, the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, came up out of the ranks of the Philistines and spoke the same words as before. And David heard him." 1 Sam. 17:23

Have you ever wondered where David learned to fight the giant Goliath? David’s courage and dependence on the living God were developed in the everyday, mundane tasks of life. He didn’t know it then, but God was preparing him for this very day all of his life!

David was a simple shepherd boy. He kept his father’s sheep. That seems like a somewhat mundane task, doesn’t it? However, keeping his father’s sheep taught David many valuable lessons. It’s in those fields that David learned to depend on God, and it’s there that he developed the courage to fight the giant Goliath.

Quite often, I’ve found in my own life, that the most valuable lessons are taught and learned in the everyday, mundane tasks of life.

It’s there in the everyday, mundane tasks of life where God prepares His children for battle.
It’s there in the everyday, mundane tasks of life where courage and dependence on Him are cultivated.
It’s there in the everyday, mundane tasks of life where character badges are earned.
It’s there in the everyday, mundane tasks of life where we learn to begin our day with prayer and carry on a conversation of prayer with the Lord throughout our day.
It’s there in the everyday, mundane tasks of life where we meditate on Scripture and tuck snippets and passages away in our minds for when the battle rages.

Never discount what God is doing in the mundane, friend! NEVER!

I often struggle accepting the mundane and would rather look for the more adventurous. Yet in the mundane I have learned patience and faithfulness.

I am the same way, Donna! I'd take the adventurous over the mundane any day. But I've learned so much more in the mundane! I've learned to trust, to follow, to accept His plan, not mine, His timing, not mine... I grown to know Him more, to love Him more, to see His plan for me is perfect, to realize that He is with me there, every step of the way, even in the mundane! :)

Love this. It's amazing how God uses the mundane to prepare us for the bigger things. It brings to mind Luke 16:10—he who is faithful in little is also faithful in much. What a wonderful reminder today.
