1 Samuel 23-25: Inquire of the Lord“Now they told David, ‘Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are robbing the threshing floors.’ Therefore David inquired of the Lord, ‘Shall I go and attack these Philistines?’ And the Lord said to David, ‘Go and attack the Philistines and save Keilah.’
David is considered Israel's greatest king. He is part of the genealogical line of Jesus and is one of the most amazing biblical characters to study. There is so much we can learn from what the Bible records of his life. He is known as “a man after God's own heart“ (1 Samuel 13:14; Acts 13:22), but he was in no way a perfect man. His life is filled with ups and downs similar to those faced by many of us today. There were occasions when he loved the Lord greatly, and there were also occasions when he failed Him greatly.
Today, we find David early in his kingship facing a problem. Let’s take note of what David does when he faces difficulties: “Therefore David inquired of the Lord” (23:2), “Then David inquired of the Lord again” (23:4). When David faced a problem, when difficulties arose in his life, He went to the Lord! That is a valuable lesson for us today. What do you need to go to the Lord about?
Take some time to think about what you need to go to the Lord about today. Make a list. Go BOLDLY! Inquire of the Lord, and if you need to, inquire again as King David did.
About Sweeter Than Honey
When I read God’s Word each morning, I find inspiration and insight that keeps my day on track. Join me on this journey. Let’s settle in with His Word—it’s His Love Letter to us. Did you know that? Let’s read it like a love letter, expecting to glean something for our walk with Him every day. Let’s look for peace in the chaos and strength for our weaknesses. Even on our busiest days we can carve out a few minutes to refocus on the important—the eternal. Can’t we? We may have to get up a little earlier, when the house is still and quiet, or stay up a few minutes after the others are all tucked in for the night, but we can do this! I know we can.
Let's be intentional about focusing on God’s Word and the truths found there. Let's let it inspire us to live out our faith each day in a way that causes those we come in contact with to want what we have found. God sees you. He knows you by name, He knows the number of hairs on your head, and He cares about every detail of your daily existence. He wrote you a Love Letter. Let’s dive in!

Inquiring of the Lord is a great daily practice for all of us. And then follow up with listening and doing (that's sometimes the hard part!). :)

David's life is such an inspiration both because he had a true heart for God and because despite sinful choces, he still had a heart for God! I need the reminder of David's inquiring of the LORD, not everyone else's advice first when he was unsure of his next steps!

Prayer is such a beautiful, wonderful gift. But perhaps I should consider whether I need to be bolder!

It is, Lauren!! And when David faced a problem, when difficulties arose in his life, He went straight to the Lord! PRAYER! That’s it. It’s just that simple. Make a list. Go BOLDLY! Inquire of the Lord, and if you need to, inquire again as David did.
