7 Psalm 119 Prayers: Four

5/16/2023

Dear #God, I come before You with a humble heart, asking that You would enlarge my heart. As the #psalmist wrote, I have chosen the way of #faithfulness and I set Your rules before me. But I know that I cannot do this on my own. I need Your help, Your strength, and Your guidance. God, please help me to cling to Your testimonies and not be put to shame. Help me to run in the way of Your commandments with #joy and enthusiasm. Enlarge my heart, God, so that I may have a greater capacity to love...
Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Book of Psalms. It is also the longest chapter in the entire Bible, consisting of 176 verses. It is an acrostic poem. Each section of eight verses begins with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The psalm is divided into twenty-two stanzas. Each of which corresponds to a letter of the Hebrew alphabet.

The theme of the psalm is the greatness and importance of God's Word and the psalmist's love for it.

The psalmist uses a variety of synonyms and metaphors to describe the Word of God. He uses words like "law," "statutes," and "testimonies." We also read words like "precepts," "commandments," "judgments," "ways," and "ordinances." The psalmist also uses personal pronouns to express his love and devotion to God's Word.

The psalm is widely attributed to King David. However, some scholars believe it was written by someone else. It is believed by many to have been penned following the Jew's exile in Babylon. The exact date of its composition is unknown.

Overall, Psalm 119 is a celebration of the importance of God's Word in the life of the faithful. It is also a call for us to obey and follow His Word. It's a hymn of praise and is often used in liturgical readings. It has been set to music by many composers. It can also be a prayer.

Today, let's look at one of seven prayers that as believers we should be praying from Psalm 119.

4. “Enlarge my heart."

"I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I set Your rules before me. I cling to Your testimonies, O Lord; let me not be put to shame! I will run in the way of Your commandments when You enlarge my heart!" Psalm 119:30-32
Dear God,
I come before You with a humble heart, asking that You would enlarge my heart. As the psalmist wrote, I have chosen the way of faithfulness and I set Your rules before me. But I know that I cannot do this on my own. I need Your help, Your strength, and Your guidance.

God, please help me to cling to Your testimonies and not be put to shame. Help me to run in the way of Your commandments with joy and enthusiasm. Enlarge my heart, God, so that I may have a greater capacity to love You, to serve You, and to follow You.

I pray that You would fill me with Your Holy Spirit, so that I may be strengthened from within. Help me to overcome any doubts, fears, or obstacles that may stand in my way. May Your love fill me to overflowing, so that I may share it with others.

Thank You for Your grace and mercy, which are new every morning. Thank You for Your faithfulness, which never fails. I trust in Your promises and I know that You will never leave me or forsake me.

God, enlarge my heart, that I may glorify You in all that I do.

In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

What a beautiful phrase to include in our prayers ... "enlarge my heart." I used to think Psalm 119 was long and kinda boring, but now I'm excited when I get to it in my reading plan. Not sure what made the difference ... maybe learning to love the Bible in a deeper way?

I agree, the phrase "enlarge my heart" is a beautiful one to include in our prayers. It is a prayer for God to give us a bigger capacity to love, to forgive, to understand His Word, and to serve.

I can understand how you might have found Psalm 119 long and boring at first. Afterall, it is the longest psalm, and it can seem repetitive at times. But the more I read it, the more I appreciate its beauty and its depth. It is a psalm of praise, of thanksgiving, and of longing for God's Word.

I think one of the things that makes Psalm 119 so special is that it is a psalm of the heart. It is a psalm that expresses the deep love and devotion that the psalmist has for God's Word—and that we should have for His Word as well. And I think that is what makes it so meaningful. It is a psalm that speaks to our own hearts, and it helps us to grow in our love for God and for His Word.

I am glad that you have come to appreciate Psalm 119. It is a beautiful psalm, and I think it can be a great source of comfort and inspiration for us all.

I think that learning to love the Bible in a deeper way can make a big difference in our appreciation for Psalm 119. When we take the time to really study the psalm, to meditate on its words, and to allow it to speak to our hearts, we can begin to see its beauty and its depth. And I think that is what makes this such a powerful prayer for us.
