The psalm is widely attributed to King David. However, some scholars believe it was written by someone else. It is believed by many to have been penned following the Jew's exile in Babylon. The exact date of its composition is unknown.
Overall, Psalm 119 is a celebration of the importance of God's Word in the life of the faithful. It is also a call for us to obey and follow His Word. It's a hymn of praise and is often used in liturgical readings. It has been set to music by many composers. It can also be a prayer. Today, let's look at two of seven prayers that as believers we should be praying from Psalm 119. 5. “Incline my heart to you.” "Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes; and I will keep it to the end. Give me understanding, that I may keep Your law and observe it with my whole heart. Lead me in the path of Your commandments, for I delight in it. Incline my heart to Your testimonies, and not to selfish gain! Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in Your ways. Confirm to Your servant Your promise, that You may be feared. Turn away the reproach that I dread, for Your rules are good. Behold, I long for Your precepts; in Your righteousness give me life!" Ps. 119:33-40
Dear God,
Incline my heart to You, for You are the source of all goodness and righteousness. Help me to turn away from selfish desires and worldly distractions, and to focus on Your ways. Teach me Your statutes, that I may follow them with all my heart and soul. Grant me understanding, so that I may keep Your law and observe it faithfully. Lead me in the path of Your commandments, for I find joy in following Your ways. Give me the strength to resist temptation and turn my eyes away from worthless things, so that I may find life in You. God, I pray that You will confirm Your promises to me, that I may fear You and trust in Your goodness. Please turn away any reproach or shame that I may face, for Your rules are good and just. I long for Your precepts, and I pray that You will give me life through Your righteousness. Incline my heart to You, O God, and fill me with Your love and grace. May I always seek Your will and follow Your ways, so that I may honor and glorify You in all that I do. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen. 6. “Teach me good judgment.” "You have dealt well with Your servant, O Lord, according to Your Word. Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in Your commandments. Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your Word. You are good and do good; teach me Your statutes. The insolent smear me with lies, but with my whole heart I keep Your precepts; their heart is unfeeling like fat, but I delight in Your law. It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn Your statutes. The law of Your mouth is better than thousands of gold and silver pieces." Ps. 119:65-72
Dear God,
I come before You today, humbly seeking Your guidance and wisdom. As the psalmist wrote, You have dealt well with Your servants according to Your Word. I believe in Your commandments and Your statutes. I ask that You would teach me good judgment and knowledge.
Thank You for Your love, Your grace, and Your mercy. May Your will be done in my life. Make me always seek to honor and glorify You in all that I do.
In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

Patsy, I pretty consistently pray the Scriptures. I guess they make up the bulk of my prayers. But I love the way you have expressed these passages in prayer form. I'll be praying them in the future.
