God cannot be ALWAYS good but sometimes not good. He cannot be ALWAYS in control but sometimes not in control. God cannot be ALWAYS trustworthy but sometimes not so much. The truth is that when God says He is ALWAYS good there is no exception to that truth. When we begin to believe that ALWAYS really means SOMETIMES when it comes to God’s nature, we are believing a lie and allowing unbelief to begin growing in our lives.
First, God is ALWAYS great – ALWAYS! That means that He is ALWAYS in control of ALL things – ALWAYS! Does it ever feel like your life starts spinning around you and you have lost control? It is such a comforting truth to know that our God is ALWAYS in control! Psalm 103:19 tells us that our God is on the throne and is in charge. No matter what the news media reports or what notification flashes across your phone, God is ALWAYS in control. Isaiah 46:9-10 says it this way, “Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:” reminding us again that from the beginning, yea even before the beginning, He has been and will continue to be in charge. His greatness is a stabilizing truth that we can trust in when it comes to helping us gain control in our lives.
Second, God is ALWAYS great – ALWAYS! That means that He is ALWAYS present with me – ALWAYS! This is one of my favorite truths about our God! I am never alone, and neither are you. He is ALWAYS with us if we are His children. Psalm 139 is a great one to meditate on when it comes to thinking right about God’s ever-present nature in our lives. He created us and continues to be with us! Being alone or lonely often causes fear in our lives, but God says, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness” (Isaiah 41:10). What a blessed truth to know that I don’t have to fear because He is with me ALWAYS! Hebrews 13:5b reminds us that He will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, leave us! On the flip side of this idea, Jeremiah reminds us that because He is ALWAYS with us; we can’t hide from Him either (Jeremiah 23:24). That truth should encourage us to live each day for Him because He is with us ALWAYS! Thirdly, God is ALWAYS great – ALWAYS! That means that He is ALWAYS the same – ALWAYS! Change is an unfortunate part of our sin-cursed world. We are constantly faced with changes in our family or job or church or even in our own health. But God NEVER changes! I love how Malachi 3:6a states this truth – “For I am the LORD, I change not….” Praise God that we serve the One Who NEVER changes! When change in government or leadership at work or whatever scenario applies to you right now swirls around you and threatens your heart to disbelieve what God says is true, remember that God is ALWAYS the same! The writer of Hebrews reminds us that God laid the foundation of the world and created all that is therein which will eventually perish, but He will NEVER wear out and fade away or change like everything here on this earth (Hebrews 1:10-12). We must trust Him because He is the only One Who will never change! Fourthly, God is ALWAYS great – ALWAYS! That means that He is ALWAYS trustworthy! What a wonderful truth about our God especially in a day and age when there is so much deceit and fallacy all around us. It is refreshing to know that we NEVER have to “fact check” our God! Paul tells Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:13 that even if we don’t believe God, He is still faithful and worthy of our trust. It is not what we do that makes God trustworthy. Rather, it is the unchanging truth that He ALWAYS has been and ALWAYS will be true and right and is worth trusting in. Psalm 36:5 tells us that His faithfulness and mercy extend beyond even this earth. Numbers 23:19 clearly shows us that God’s nature is one of faithfulness and trustworthiness. It is completely outside His nature to deceive us in any way. Moses reminded the Israelites of this at the end of his life when he recounted how faithful and trustworthy our God is which will help to dispel that fear that creeps into our lives so easily (Deuteronomy 31:8). When we struggle to trust our God, we are living in unbelief about His nature. He is ALWAYS trustworthy to those of every generation (Deuteronomy 7:9)! Lastly, God is ALWAYS great – ALWAYS! That means that He is ALWAYS wise in what He does – ALWAYS! It is easy to doubt God when we can’t see what He is doing and when we are looking for answers to the struggles in our lives. But, Friend, I want to encourage you that faith in our God literally means trusting His wisdom when we don’t know the why and how. Romans 11:33 tells us that we will never completely comprehend the depth of our God’s wisdom. If He is in control (and He is) and if He is all-wise (and He is), then we can trust that He is using His wisdom even in the difficulty in your life today. Paul tells us in Colossians 2:3 that there is wisdom and knowledge hidden in Christ. We may never understand the why, but I don’t have to know why in order to trust God. One person put it this way, “Don’t doubt in the dark what we know to be true in the light.” God has revealed so much to us in His Word, and we must trust Him to use His abundant wisdom for our good and for His glory in EVERY situation!
I hope that these truths will help you to combat the doubts and thoughts of unbelief about our God that so easily creep into our thinking. God’s Word can help us to continue to see that our God is ALWAYS good and ALWAYS great no matter the circumstances we face. When we believe these truths and act on them, Satan will not have that foothold to send those thoughts of doubt and unbelief, and we can victoriously face all that God allows in our lives. May my God and your God truly be more than enough in your life today!
We've talked about how God is ALWAYS good (Part 1) and God is ALWAYS great. How have these stabilizing truths impacted your life?
