What a blessed truth this is in a world that is ever-changing! Jim Berg’s book God Is More Than Enough outlines some stabilizing truths about our God that help us when it comes to the unbelief that creeps into our thinking so easily.
God cannot be ALWAYS good but sometimes not good. He cannot be ALWAYS in control but sometimes not in control. God cannot be ALWAYS trustworthy but sometimes not so much. The truth is that when God says He is ALWAYS good there is no exception to that truth. When we begin to believe that ALWAYS really means SOMETIMES when it comes to God’s nature, we are believing a lie and allowing unbelief to begin growing in our lives. The truths that I want to comment on here from Berg’s book will help stabilize your thinking about God and recognize the unbelief in your heart when you begin to think that God is not enough for you. Friend, let me echo Jim Berg’s book title to resonate in your heart – GOD IS MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR YOU!
In this two-part series, I want to share with you that God is ALWAYS good and ALWAYS great and what that means for you and me. So let’s dive in this month to see our ALWAYS good God!
First, God is ALWAYS good – ALWAYS! That means that He will ALWAYS meet my genuine needs – ALWAYS! Matthew 6:31-33 tells us that when we seek the Lord first, He will care for our genuine needs. That is not all the things that we THINK we need, but all the things that He knows we need! Do you believe that God ALWAYS cares for your needs? Second, God is ALWAYS good – ALWAYS! That means that He will ALWAYS forgive my sin – ALWAYS! The truth of 1 John 1:9 really comes alive in light of this ALWAYS idea – Jesus promises to forgive us EVERY TIME we come to Him confessing our sins. David speaks about this sweet forgiveness in Psalm 51. What a privilege we have to come to the Lord for forgiveness for salvation, but every day after that for perpetual forgiveness for our sins in this redeemed mortal body in which we live until we are glorified! He never turns us away – NEVER! Do you believe that God is ALWAYS ready to forgive you?
Third, God is ALWAYS good – ALWAYS! That means that He is always up to something good in my life – ALWAYS! Oh Friend, have you come to this realization that as a believer God is ALWAYS working thing out for your good and for His glory? Jeremiah tells us that God has good, peaceful thoughts toward us and not evil (Jeremiah 29:11). I meet people all the time who have believed the lie that God is out to get them. Friend, as a believer, God is seeking good for you! Take time to consider Romans 8:26-34 in this context. He gave us the Spirit to minister to us even when we don’t know how to pray. He is working all things for our good! He is FOR us not against us! Can you believe God in this truth and realize that He is up to something good in you ALWAYS?
Fourth, God is ALWAYS good – ALWAYS! That means He will ALWAYS love me personally – ALWAYS! Paul goes on in that passage in Romans 8:35-39 to tell us how much God loves us. His love helps us to be conquerors through Christ, and there is NOTHING that can separate us from Him! Seriously, look at that list of things that God promises can NEVER separate us from His love! What a tremendous blessing we have in God’s love! Jeremiah 31:3 tells us that God’s love for us is everlasting! There is nothing that indicates that it was a sometimes kind of love. God loves us from before the beginning. Do you believe the truth that God loves you personally ALWAYS? Lastly, God is ALWAYS good – ALWAYS! That means that He will ALWAYS give me the grace I need – ALWAYS! Every believer has experienced God’s grace at salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9). Saving grace is literally amazing just like John Newton wrote about in the famous song “Amazing Grace.” But that grace continues to us as abundant, enabling, and sufficient for every time I need it! Paul speaks often about this grace. Paul speaks about the abundant grace of God in 2 Corinthians 9:8 – check out all the “ALL”s in this verse. Do you think God’s grace is only good for some things? If so, God lied when He said He is able to make ALL grace abound toward you! See we can’t change the meaning of the words when it comes to the unchangeable nature of God. Paul also said that it is only by the grace of God that I am what I am (1 Corinthians 15:10). Do you believe that you are where you are in your life because of the grace of God? Do you believe that God’s grace is sufficient for every need? Read 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 to see that God’s grace is indeed sufficient for your every need. Friend, do you believe that God’s sufficient grace is ALWAYS available to you?
Next month, I will continue this idea with some other stabilizing truths that help us believe God as we should to know that He is more than enough for you and me. Until then, may I leave you with this thought – No matter what you face, your God is more than enough and is ALWAYS good! Will you believe that simple yet profound truth today?
