By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks.

Another favorite part of this passage for me personally is found in verse 8 where it says that Abraham "went out, not knowing where he was going." How many times have I felt God leading me somewhere, but I have no idea where we are going? Maybe you feel this same way today. My prayer with you today my friend is Lord, let me trust you when I have no idea where we are going.
So, two thoughts from Hebrews 11 today:

The same God who led you in will lead you out.

The Red Sea Rules: 10 God-Given Strategies for Difficult Times
Using the Israelites' story as an example, Robert Morgan offers ten sound strategies for moving from fear to faith. Among them: Realize that God means for you to be where you are. Acknowledge your enemy, but keep your eyes on the Lord. Pray.
Life is hard, especially for Christians. It is certain that we will face difficulties, and that God will allow them, as He allowed the Israelites to become trapped between Pharaoh's rushing armies and the uncrossable Red Sea. But just as certain is the fact that the same God who led us in will lead us out. As The Red Sea Rules makes comfortingly clear, He is in control." --goodreads

You're so right Michele! "Some of them I might not have expected to fine there..." I think heaven is going to be the same way. "...and then, others I'd have looked for and been surprised to find omitted." Makes me think of how differently we look at people than the way God looks at them.

I don't think I can pick a favorite. Although, what stood out reading it today was that Barak is there, I have read this a hundred times and haven't given any notice to him, today he jumped out. We often think of him as weak, wanting a woman to go to war with him. We miss that it was only because he wanted to ensure God went with him and he was willing to give up the glory in order to have that. Faithful and humble. So many great characters and lessons we can learn from each one. Many Thanks 8)

Yes Debra, Barak is an interesting character you might not expect to find in Hebrews 11, but that's what makes the chapter so intriguing to me.

Oh thank you so much Stacy! These stories of faith are so encouraging to me because they are not just faith, they are failure too, and I fail so very often! There is hope, even for me.

Julie, I think it might be mine too! So much encouragements here that these people were not perfect, but they were heroes of faith, God's beloved, His chosen people— they were just like us! :)
