Sweeter Than Honey: You Are Not Forsaken

In #Psalm 37, David reminds us that #God will not forsake us. He writes, “I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his #children begging for bread” (37:35). He reminds us to #trust the #Lord, do good, #dwell where He has placed us, and be #faithful. We are to delight ourselves in the Lord, and when we do, our steps will be established. We’re to commit our ways to Him, and be still, waiting patiently for His leading. #Biblestudy #devotional #truth #faith
From the Old Testament to the New, the eternality of God's Word is clearly proclaimed:

Job tells us, “I have treasured the Words of His mouth more than my portion of food” (Job 23:12).

Isaiah reminds us that, “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of our God endures forever” (Isaiah 40:8).

And Matthew records Jesus saying, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My Words will never pass away” (Matthew 24:35).

God's Word is like an eternal Love Letter to us!

Have you ever received a love letter, friend? Did you read it? Did you read it just once, or did you read it over and over again? A Love Letter is a treasure when you love the One who sent it!

Psalms 36-38: You Are Not Forsaken

In Psalm 37, David reminds us that God will not forsake us. He writes, “I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread” (37:35).
“…Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices! …For the evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land.

Better is the little that the righteous has than the abundance of many wicked. For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous.

The Lord knows the days of the blameless, and their heritage will remain forever; they are not put to shame in evil times; in the days of famine they have abundance…. The wicked borrows but does not pay back, but the righteous is generous and gives; for those blessed by the Lord shall inherit the land, but those cursed by Him shall be cut off.

The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when He delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand.

I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread. He is ever lending generously, and his children become a blessing.

Turn away from evil and do good; so shall you dwell forever. For the Lord loves justice; He will not forsake His saints. They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off…. Wait for the Lord and keep His way, and He will exalt you to inherit the land… The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their stronghold in the time of trouble. The Lord helps them and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in Him.” (Psalm 37:3-40)
David reminds us to trust in the Lord, do good, dwell where He has placed us, and be faithful. We are to delight ourselves in the Lord, and when we do, our steps will be established. We’re to commit our ways to Him, and be still, waiting patiently for His leading. Though we fall, the Lord will uphold us. He knows our days. He holds our hand and we are not forsaken. His ways we are to keep. Our ways He will establish. He is our stronghold in times of trouble, our deliverer, and our refuge.
Remember this today: you are not forsaken. Not in the most difficult seasons or on your hardest days—you are never forsaken, friend!

About Sweeter Than Honey

When I read God’s Word each morning, I find inspiration and insight that keeps my day on track. Join me on this journey. Let’s settle in with His Word—it’s His Love Letter to us. Did you know that? Let’s read it like a love letter, expecting to glean something for our walk with Him every day. Let’s look for peace in the chaos and strength for our weaknesses. Even on our busiest days we can carve out a few minutes to refocus on the important—the eternal. Can’t we? We may have to get up a little earlier, when the house is still and quiet, or stay up a few minutes after the others are all tucked in for the night, but we can do this! I know we can.
Let's be intentional about focusing on God’s Word and the truths found there. Let's let it inspire us to live out our faith each day in a way that causes those we come in contact with to want what we have found. God sees you. He knows you by name, He knows the number of hairs on your head, and He cares about every detail of your daily existence. He wrote you a Love Letter. Let’s dive in!

“Prayer does not mean simply to pour out one’s heart. It means rather to find the way to God and to speak with Him, whether the heart is full or empty. No man can do that by himself. For that, he needs Jesus Christ.” ―Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Psalms: The Prayer Book of the Bible

Absolutely, Lauren! I am so thankful for God's faithfulness and His promises to us!

Sometimes, I find it difficult to wait patiently for Him to act. I want it done now! You know that feeling? But in those hard times, I am reminded of Psalm 37:5 that tells us “He will act” if we commit our way to Him and trust Him. He will bring forth righteousness as the light and justice as the noonday. In the meantime, I am to:
👉🏼 Trust Him
👉🏼 Do good
👉🏼 Dwell where He’s planted me
👉🏼 Be faithful
👉🏼 Delight myself in Him

So wonderful that God remained faithful to David, and I am grateful for his faithfulness to me!

Yes, Michele, me as well!!

I especially love these verses that remind me of His faithfulness:
"Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!” Psalm 37:3-7

Just read all of the "He wills" in that passage! :) Faithful!!
