I love your summary statement--that God can take those who appear insignificant and unlikely to succeed and transform them into important witnesses of His power. Probably none of them in their lifetimes had any inkling they were part of a bigger story, except Mary.
I love that Rahab didn't just fear Israel, like the rest of Jericho, but she believed in Israel's God. Ruth's sweet spirit and faithfulness are such good examples. And Mary's willingness for whatever God wanted to do with her life is a rebuke to me.
I love that, Barbara! —> "Probably none of them in their lifetimes had any inkling they were part of a bigger story..." That statement makes me wonder if we too could be part of a "bigger story" than we realize or will ever know?
I am most inspired by Ruth. She left her home, her family and her religion of origin to support and love on her mother-in-love. She made a commitment to her and willingly sacrificed everything she knew and left her comfort zone to be with Naomi. She was wise enough to follow Naomi's directives as it concerned Boaz and because of her humility and willingness to listen she became a part of lineage of Jesus. WOW!
We have been studying the book of Ruth in Sunday school, Calvonia. So much for us to learn there! Not just about the strength of Ruth, but also the strength of her mother-in-law—Naomi. And to think, the lineage of Jesus flow from this beautiful story!!
Like all the words of Scripture, God's inclusion of those women's names in his book is no mistake. We are all seen!
I love that, Michele! —> "We are all seen!" And heard. And able to be part of God's story. SO ENCOURAGING!
Patsy, I find encouragement in finding women in the geneology of Christ, but not just "perfect", godly upright women who had it all together, the inclusion of Tamar and Rahab speak to God's redemptive work in you and me, perhaps He included them as a testimony of the grace and redemption foreshadowed in His birth....
I too find encouragement here, Donna! Especially since they are so like me—they didn't have it all together (as you wrote) and most of the time, I don't either. LOL
I loved studying these women. In fact they inspired me to write Little Women, Big God! They had crushing problems, little resources, but a big God. Enjoyed your review of them.
I do as well, Debbie. Love your book "Little Women, Big God!" As a matter of fact, I love it so much I'm going to add a link to it in this post! "They had crushing problems, little resources, but a big God." BEAUTIFUL!
Rahab - man, do I relate. My red cord of Hope, my tiqvah, hangs on our front door. YES, LORD.
What a beautiful and powerful connection to Rahab's story, Susuan!! It's amazing how symbols like the red cord can hold such deep personal significance. Your expression of having your own "tiqvah" on your front door is a wonderful testament to the hope and faith that resonates in Rahab's story. May that red cord of hope continue to inspire and uplift you!
