Sweeter Than Honey is a 365-day devotional journey that leads the reader

“Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
I love these 3 verses from Matthew 11. They may sound familiar to you, especially verse 28, as we find it quoted quite often. Jesus wants us to come to Him. He does not want us to be “heavy laden.” He wants to give us rest.
Jesus invites us to take His yoke. What does that mean? What is a yoke? When I think of a yoke, I think of oxen pulling a cart. The yoke is that wooden beam that connects the two oxen at their necks. The yoke appears heavy and burdensome, yet it enables the oxen to pull heavy loads. In many ways, the yoke is freedom for the oxen. The yoke frees the oxen from pulling the heavy load alone and allows them to work in tandem as they pull the load of the cart. Jesus tells us that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Jesus also invites us to learn from Him. That’s exactly what we are doing by diving deep into His Word. And then He tells us that in Him we will find rest for our souls. Let’s look back up to verses 5-6 and see Who we find rest in. |

“And Jesus answered them, ‘Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.’” (Matthew 11:5-6)
This is the God we serve! He invites us to come to Him and find rest for our souls. |

“Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
When I read God’s Word each morning, I find inspiration and insight that keeps my day on track. Join me on this journey. Let’s settle in with His Word—it’s His Love Letter to us. Did you know that? Let’s read it like a Love Letter, expecting to glean something for our walk with Him every day. Let’s look for peace in the chaos and strength for our weaknesses. Even on our busiest days we can carve out a few minutes to refocus on the important. Can’t we? We may have to get up a little earlier, when the house is still and quiet, or stay up a few minutes after the others are tucked in for the night, but we can do this! I know we can!

I totally agree, Michele, and that is an always-evolving process for me. I can't just depend on doing the same things over and over and over again, day after day, and grow spiritually. Sometimes, I have to shake things up a bit—studying His Word in a different setting, at a different time, in a different way... diving into a book of the Bible that I haven't dove into deeply before. It's a process, and I don't want to become bogged down in the mundane. I want more!
"Come to Me, ALL who labor and are heavy laden, and I WILL GIVE YOU REST." It's a promise, Debbie, a refreshing promise! :)
I love this challenge:" Let's let it inspire us to live out our faith each day in a way that causes those we come in contact with to want what we have found." If we don't show them won't be compelled. If we don't tell them they will not know. We have to drink daily from the living water so those who are thirsty can drink from the well that will never run dry.
I love that, Calvonia! —> "We have to drink daily from the living water so those who are thirsty can drink from the well that will never run dry." TRUTH!
I recently did a deep dive on His yoke being easy. Interesting and comforting stuff.
