How would you like to read through God's Love Letter—His Word, the Bible, with a group of like-minded, Christian girlfriends? We're doing that over in the private, Sweeter Than Honey, Facebook group. Did you know you don't have to start a Bible reading plan on January 1? You can begin today! This simple plan, and an accountability partner, will help you succeed. Who will be your accountability partner? Share this post with them and invite them to the private Facebook group.
Sweeter Than Honey is patterned after this Bible Reading Itinerary. On Tuesdays, here at the blog, I would love it if you and I could take a trip through God's Word and Sweeter Than Honey, together! I would also encourage you to Join us over in the private, Sweeter Than Honey, Facebook group, introduce yourself, meet new friends, and share your thoughts there as well. We're waiting for you!
Exodus 22-24: And I Will Surely Hear“You shall not wrong a sojourner or oppress him, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt. You shall not mistreat any widow or fatherless child. If you do mistreat them, and they cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry.” (Exodus 22:21-23) “If ever you take your neighbor's cloak in pledge, you shall return it to him before the sun goes down, for that is his only covering, and it is his cloak for his body; in what else shall he sleep? And if he cries to Me, I will hear, for I am compassionate.” (Exodus 22:26-17)
Twice, in chapter 22 of Exodus, God says that He hears us:
Today, as we venture into a new month, I want us to think about what we need to cry out to God about, because we know from Scripture that He hears us. I also want us to remember that we were once lost, sojourners. Like the Israelites were redeemed from the land of Egypt, we have been redeemed from a life of sin and eternity without Christ.
List a few requests [on a piece of paper] that you will commit to crying out to God over this month. Maybe it’s an unsaved friend or loved one, a prodigal child, or another issue looming heavy on your heart. Let’s cry out and remember that He will hear our cry, for He is compassionate!
I love creating a monthly, focused prayer list. In my prayer journal, I record daily, weekly, and monthly prayers. I love recording the answers as well. How do you organize your prayer life?
About Sweeter Than Honey
When I read God’s Word each morning, I find inspiration and insight that keeps my day on track. Join me on this journey. Let’s settle in with His Word—it’s His Love Letter to us. Did you know that? Let’s read it like a love letter, expecting to glean something for our walk with Him every day. Let’s look for peace in the chaos and strength for our weaknesses. Even on our busiest days we can carve out a few minutes to refocus on the important—the eternal. Can’t we? We may have to get up a little earlier, when the house is still and quiet, or stay up a few minutes after the others are all tucked in for the night, but we can do this! I know we can!
Let's be intentional about focusing on God’s Word and the truths found there. Let's let it inspire us to live out our faith each day in a way that causes those we come in contact with to want what we have found. God sees you. He knows you by name, He knows the number of hairs on your head, and He cares about every detail of your daily existence. He wrote you a Love Letter. Let’s dive in!

Our church has been using the PrayerMate app, setting up a group for our church. It's helpful in that members can post requests and have them seen immediately, rather than waiting until someone can send them through the prayer list email we used to have. For months, I only used the app for praying for church folks. But they have a section for "Biblical Prayers," including what's called "The Lord's Prayer." I've added to that prayer passages like Colossians 1:9-12, Philippians 1:9-11, Ephesians 1:17-20 and 3:14-21. I use those in praying for myself and others. The app has lots of other aspects that I haven't explored yet.

It takes a gritty faith to keep showing up with the same request year after year. How wonderful that God never tires of our voices.

Patsy, I so appreciated this post today. Earlier I read 1 Peter 5:7 - "Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully." (AMP)

Patsy, I'm always encouraged by your post and how you describe God's word as a love letter to us. It is not just a love letter, it is a guiding light as well. Lately, I'm learning to rest in God's peace especially when experiencing delayed answer to prayers.

His Word is for sure a guiding light, Betty! It's our textbook for life and I am so thankful that we have the freedom to own a copy.

Yes, Lauren! And I love this reminder a few chapters later in Exodus 29:46, “And they shall know that I am the LORD their God, who brought them out of the land of Egypt that I might dwell among them. I am the LORD their God.”

Patsy, I love the idea of a monthly focused prayer list. I do like to have something written down in a notebook or journal. I think it helps me stay focused. For the last few years, I have used a simple looseleaf binder, but it was getting cumbersome (my lists get long) so I'm experimenting with a disc journal. It's lighter and pretty, too. Thanks for all your encouragement here. February blessings!

Writing my prayer list down (and the answers) Donna, is the best boost to my prayer life that I've found. It helps me focus and stay focused, and that's important!
