The Personal Devotional Life: Seeking Him DailyOne thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in His temple. Ps. 27:4
One thing. The priority of my life.
Seeking Him is not for a season…it is a lifetime priority and passion. We desire closer communion with God, deeper awareness of His love for us and our love for Him, more victory over sin, and more abundant fruit of His Spirit. The key to this kind of personal revival is cultivating a devotional life—a daily time with God in His Word and in prayer. There are no shortcuts. “Our relationship with Christ will never be greater than our relationship with His Word.” --Seeking Him
Notice that the Psalmist begins by simply asking.
“One thing have I asked of the Lord…” Pray for the consistency that your heart has been longing for. “Oh God, I want to seek You daily, but my mind is prone to wander. Please give me a heart—a passion—for Your Word and for communion with You. May I say with the Psalmist, ‘As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?’” Psalm 42:1-2
We must begin to have the mindset that if we accomplish nothing else today, the one thing that we are going to do above all else is to develop our relationship with God.
“But one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42
Sitting at the feet of Jesus.
This is not about checking off your devotions and moving on to the next task. Our goal is to deliberately cultivate a relationship with God.
You will find that as you devote yourself to time in God’s Word and prayer that your thirst for Him will grow,
“For the word of God is living and active….” (Hebrews 4:12) And you will be well on your way to a lifetime of Seeking Him!
I love this quote from the book, “Our relationship with Christ will never be greater than our relationship with His Word.” --Seeking Him It is so ture! How will you seek Him this week?

I don't know if I've ever thought about it quite that way, but it's so true that everything else in our Christian lives depends on time spent in the Word.

The Word and prayer, Barbara, are so critical to Christian living! Yet, when I get busy and need those things most, what do I do? Sadly, I find myself neglecting the most important things and shifting my attention to the things "I" think are important.

Lord, revive us. May we be transformed into the people you intended us to be.

I feel a gaping hole any day I don’t spend good time with the Father. It’s the one addiction that actually makes you a better person!

If we don't read the word (or hear the word spoken, passed down) how can we know the depth of love and compassion our Father has for us. As I child, a lifetime of relationship with God seemed for far away, so impossible - but at 59, I realize I just need to keep my eyes on today - He will take care of the lifetime!
