Seeking Him Week Twelve--The Personal Devotional Life: Seeking Him Daily
Welcome to our Summer 2021 Book Club-Style Bible Study! We are using the book Seeking Him by Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth and Tim Grissom.

How would you like to seek personal revival with us this summer and change your life forever! I have done this study twice now, and let me tell you, it is life changing!

Join us for 12 weeks this summer on Tuesday mornings at 9:00 est beginning June 1 through August 17. If you can't come then, come when you can.

Whether you are a brand new lover of Jesus Christ, or you’ve been a Christian for years, this insightful study will impact your life in a transformative way. Seeking Him will reward you with a deeper walk with God and set your life on a path to be used greatly by our Savior.

The Personal Devotional Life: Seeking Him Daily

One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in His temple. Psalm 27:4
One thing. The priority of my life.

Seeking Him is not for a season…it is a lifetime priority and passion. We desire closer communion with God, deeper awareness of His love for us and our love for Him, more victory over sin, and more abundant fruit of His Spirit.

The key to this kind of personal revival is cultivating a devotional life—a daily time with God in His Word and in prayer. There are no shortcuts. “Our relationship with Christ will never be greater than our relationship with His Word.” --Seeking Him
Notice that the Psalmist begins by simply asking.

“One thing have I asked of the Lord…”

Pray for the consistency that your heart has been longing for.
“Oh God, I want to seek You daily, but my mind is prone to wander. Please give me a heart—a passion—for Your Word and for communion with You. May I say with the Psalmist, ‘As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?’” Psalm 42:1-2
We must begin to have the mindset that if we accomplish nothing else today, the one thing that we are going to do above all else is to develop our relationship with God.
“But one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42
Sitting at the feet of Jesus.

This is not about checking off your devotions and moving on to the next task. Our goal is to deliberately cultivate a relationship with God.
  1. Prepare your heart with prayer as you “Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise.” (Psalm 100:4)

Ask God to reveal any hindrances to your fellowship with Him. Confess known sin.

Ask God to quiet your heart and open your eyes and ears while committing to obey what He shows you.

“Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Your law. Give me understanding, that I may keep Your law and observe it with all my heart.” (Psalm 119:18, 34)

  2. Listen to God. Choose a passage—a book of the Bible—and read through it thoughtfully and prayerfully while underlining key words and phrases. Write in a notebook what God shows you and speaks to you.

  3. Talk to God. He has just spoken to you, and you should be responding back to Him. Our words should express love, gratitude, faith, surrender, and even confession. If you are not sure what to say, begin by praying the scripture you just read, or pray one of the Psalms.

Your prayer should include making requests for those things God has burdened you for and for the needs of others.

Pray in the will of God believing. He hears you and will give you your request. (I John 5:14-15)
You will find that as you devote yourself to time in God’s Word and prayer that your thirst for Him will grow,

“For the word of God is living and active….” (Hebrews 4:12)

And you will be well on your way to a lifetime of Seeking Him!

I don't know if I've ever thought about it quite that way, but it's so true that everything else in our Christian lives depends on time spent in the Word.

The Word and prayer, Barbara, are so critical to Christian living! Yet, when I get busy and need those things most, what do I do? Sadly, I find myself neglecting the most important things and shifting my attention to the things "I" think are important.

Like the Fisherman that He is, God has to reel me back in and remind me that my relationship with Him—and that happens through reading His Word and prayer—is always going to be the most important. :)

Lord, revive us. May we be transformed into the people you intended us to be.

"Seeking Him is not for a season…it is a lifetime priority and passion."
Amen! I need time in His Word, quietly, every day to make it through the demands and challenges. I don't know how I would make it otherwise. Blessings!

I feel a gaping hole any day I don’t spend good time with the Father. It’s the one addiction that actually makes you a better person!

If we don't read the word (or hear the word spoken, passed down) how can we know the depth of love and compassion our Father has for us. As I child, a lifetime of relationship with God seemed for far away, so impossible - but at 59, I realize I just need to keep my eyes on today - He will take care of the lifetime!
