Grace: God's Provision for Every Need“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16
Seeking Him requires humility, honesty, and repentance.
Do you feel these requirements are too much for God to ask of His people? Yes, it would be too much if we had to do it alone. But God gives grace. Extravagant grace. His undeserved favor and enabling power. Grace was given at our salvation, but it didn’t stop there. It continues to be poured out on us to overflowing.
The apostle Paul told us in I Timothy 1,
“…the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.” I Timothy 1:14
Now is not the time to waver in our faith. It is time to be convinced of and confident in God’s grace. When every part of our being seems to be saying “I just keep failing…this will never work,” we must draw near to His throne of grace.
Every decision we have made so far…
…none of this was accomplished apart from God’s grace.
Every step of Seeking Him is done with an outpouring of God’s grace. We just need to keep coming to His throne for it. It is there for the asking. In fact, the more we are struck with our neediness, the more ready we are to receive His grace.
David, in Psalm 86, demonstrated this:
“Incline Your ear, O Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and need… Be gracious to me, O Lord, for to You do I cry all the day…. For You, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon You. Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace." Psalm 86: 1,3,5,6
Do you see David’s confidence as He comes to God’s throne of grace? He does not hold back in fear or doubt, but his faith is obvious.
Something else that is evident is David’s humility. His confidence and boldness are in God’s grace, not in his ability or goodness. “But He gives more grace. Therefore it [the Scripture] says, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’” James 4:6
Humility causes us to realize that the “time of need,” that Hebrews 4:16 is talking about, is every hour of every day. As the hymn writer, Robert Lowry, put it,
I need Thee every hour
And He certainly will, because He has promised. Come boldly to His throne of amazing grace!
I don't know about you, but I know me, and I need A LOT of God's grace! I'm so glad He freely dispenses it for every need, because this girl needs it, daily! How will you seek Him this week?

Yes, Michele! It seems the older I get the more obvious how needy I am — and also the more beautiful and welcome is God’s grace. It’s always been there. What I’ve lacked in the past has been the faith to come and receive it.

I am coming to Him with empty hands held out. Nothing in my hands I bring, simply to your cross I cling.

Our church studied through Leviticus and Numbers recently. I’m so thankful the curtain has been torn open and we have access to God’s throne of grace.

This is one of my favorite passages, Debbie. I LOVE all of Hebrews! As a third-grader I, along with my classmates, memorized Hebrews 11–the whole chapter—over the course of the school year. It made a HUGE impact on my life and stands as a reminder that, YES! I CAN memorize Scripture! :)

And the most AMAZING thing, Maryleigh, is that He invites us to run to Him over and over again, even after we have spent what seems to be a lifetime of running the other direction! "...to a Father who makes things right when we've made a mess out of things!" <— I LOVE THAT!
