"“My Shepherd will supply my need, Jehovah is His name…”
“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.” “But God shall supply all my needs…”
These verses and songs are often taught at a young age, with the same message, Jehovah-JIREH.
When I first sat down to reflect on what my God has provided for me, I felt as though I was the wrong person to write a testimony on what God has provided—not because I have not had my needs met, but because, by God’s goodness, I have never had a time when I was afraid that they would not be. But, as I thought back, how much more it meant to me that my God does provide! My needs have always been met. Why? Because my God is Jehovah-JIREH! However, when our needs are met, our wants tend to become more prominent. They can even begin to feel like things we need. My husband and I have been praying for a child for several years now; but it has not yet been in God’s plans for us. It has been so easy for me to focus on that and feel as though God is not providing.
Oh how wrong I am realizing that way of thinking is. Jehovah-JIREH has provided every need I have ever had - and He will not stop now!
Sometimes what we think we need is not what God knows we need. In Genesis 22, Abraham follows God, in faith—even when it seemed hard and did not make sense. And he did it without question. Why? Because Abraham knew his God. He knew Jehovah-JIREH would supply what Abraham needed. My prayer for myself, and for you, is that we would have faith like Abraham. We are the only changing variable in our relationship with our God. Jehovah-JIREH has always provided. May we always remember that “My God shall supply all my needs.” My brother, Joe, is a pastor in Wyoming, and he wrote the words to this song. They have been such an encouragement to me, and I hope they are to you as well.
“My God and Lord above is faithful through each day.
He is Creator God and always doth provide. Through trying times my soul is ever satisfied. Jehovah-JIREH is faithful through each day. Jehovah is His name. Let every tongue proclaim He is Lord above, And has everlasting love; My lips will praise His name! For He will ever reign, My life rests in His name. Jehovah, I’ll proclaim!” —Samantha

"Sometimes what we think we need is not what God knows we need." This is so true! It reminds me of the chorus to "Great is Thy Faithfulness"--"all I have needed, Thy hand hath provided." Praying for you this morning, Samantha, that God would continue to give you what you need as you wait for Him to unfold His plans for your family. And Patsy, thank you so much for faithfully hosting the linkup each week. I know it takes time and effort, and I really appreciate it!
