"God is referred to by many different names. In English, we refer to Him as God or Jesus Christ. When we look at the Hebrew language (which is the original language for the Old Testament), Yahweh, Adonai, and Elohim are the primary names for God.
There is only one true God Who is the Creator of this whole universe, and His name is Jesus Christ. He is the King of kings, and Lord of lords, the name above all names. Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior; He is God in the flesh. God is the one and only true living God. He is THE God and Savior of this world. From the rising of the sun, and from the west, there is none beside Him (Isaiah 45:6). He is the Alpha and Omega (Revelation 1:8), the first and the last, beside Him there is no God (Isaiah 44:6-8). Throughout the Bible, Jesus is referred to by many different names that illustrate His true identity and power in this world. From being called the Prince of Peace to the Good Shepherd, the Everlasting Father, the Lamb of God, and the True Vine. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life; there is no other way to enter into the Kingdom of God except through Him. In Genesis 14:18-20, we see that God is known as “the Most High God.” Melchizedek, king of Salem, who was the priest at the time, blessed Abraham who was of the Most High God. Abraham had just won a number of battles against pagan kingdoms in order to save his nephew, Lot. This story of Melchizedek the priest is a foreshadowing of Jesus’ being the High Priest (Hebrews 4-10; 1 Timothy 2:5) after the order of Melchizedek (Hebrews 7). When Melchizedek brought out bread and wine (Genesis 14:18), it is a juxtaposition to Jesus and the Last Supper, representing His body being the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of the whole world, when He died on the cross. The wine represents the blood that Jesus shed on the cross after He was crucified, taking the punishment for our sins.
God’s title as El Elyon—the Most High God—is found many times in the Bible. This title is given to God because He is above all others. God is higher and superior to all. God has the highest position of authority in Heaven and on earth (Philippians 2:10-11).
This title, El Elyon, humbles us because we are nothing without God. It allows us to fully submit to Him and give God all the glory and power. Through His authority, we are guided on the right path in our lives. El Elyon is both omnipresent and omnipotent (Proverbs 15:3; Matthew 19:26). He knows every single detail about us—past, present, and future. Nothing can be hidden from God (Luke 12:2-3). He knows what is best for us, and we should put our trust and faith in Him alone. El Elyon gives us the strength that we need to endure all things in this world, and the wisdom and guidance to seek the truth of His Word and encourage others to come to Christ. He is the Supreme Ruler of this world and is to be exalted on high!" —Sacha
