As I mentioned in an earlier post, it was through experiencing these consequences as the recipient of careless words that God grabbed my attention about my own speech. Since I know firsthand the painful effects of such words, why would I ever want to be the cause of that for another person?
I have to ask myself these questions:
This is by no means a comprehensive list of the damage our careless, thoughtless, and insensitive words can do, but it is a start.
It is wise to consider the outcome of our words before we are in a situation to speak. This is one of the first steps toward making a change in the way we speak and avoiding careless talk. Our Words Matter Scripture Memory Cards

Words . . . can give life or they can devastate. I appreciate your questions to help me evaluate the words I speak. I seek to speak words that edify others, but sometimes, I blow it. "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable, to You, O Lord, my Rock and Redeemer." ~Psalm 19:14

Thank you, Jeanne, for your thoughtful comment. It's commendable that you are conscious of the impact words can have and strive to use them to uplift and edify others. The verse from Psalm 19:14 is a beautiful reminder to align our words with positive intentions and values. We all have moments where we may fall short, but the awareness and commitment to improvement are crucial steps. Keep aspiring to speak words that reflect kindness, understanding, and encouragement. Your journey to mindful communication is a commendable one, and may it bring positivity to both yourself and those around you.

Thank you for your kind words, Richella!! I'm delighted to read that you found the encouragement and questions helpful. It's truly empowering when we pause to reflect before speaking, and I'm glad this post plays a small part in fostering that awareness.
