Additionally, my husband and I don’t want Easter to be just about one day — not for ourselves as individuals nor for our daughter. This means we are working to be intentional about preparing our hearts and minds to delight in the sacrificial death and triumphant resurrection of Jesus! By doing this, our worship on Resurrection Sunday will be all the sweeter!
Sometimes, in all the busyness, it is hard to know where to start or what to do. That’s why I want to share these resources with you so that as a family you can grow in your understanding and appreciation of Christ’s resurrection and worship Him together!
Not Consumed - Uncovering Mercies at the Cross
Not Consumed is a resource that I have only recently discovered. Their mission is “to help families grow in faith so they can live not consumed by life” but rather grounded in the Word. They provide numerous Bible studies and devotionals for a wide span of ages, in addition to being an excellent homeschool resource, too!
Their Easter study “Uncovering Mercies at the Cross” is unique because it is available in 5 different age levels — from pre-K all the way through teens. It also has a parent guide. This a great option for families of multiple ages as it facilitates both individual study and family worship! Additionally, Not Consumed offers Easter Countdown Cards that correspond to the Uncovering Mercies study that can be used as a daily visual reminder and reinforce Scripture from the devotionals.
Jesus Makes Me New Family Devotional
Sometimes it's hard to know how to take the big truths of God’s Word and present them to children in a way they can understand and that sets a foundation for further growth. “Jesus Makes Me New” is a family devotional from The Daily Grace Co. that does just that!
The study was created to be used during Lent but could also be used at any time of the year as a family devotional. With 40 daily lessons, Scripture readings, and discussion questions, this study is rich with theological truth and is a great way to teach and rehearse the wonders of the Gospel together as a family.
Books to Read
I also want to include some books for children that are wonderful tools to share the Gospel with the children in our lives and can help to build the anticipation for celebrating Jesus' resurrection!
It’s easy to think that resources like these are helpful and enriching only for children. But I have found that these tools that distill the deep truths of God’s Word for kids are also incredibly impactful for us adults as well! As my husband and I seek to share big truths in a simple way with our daughter, we have found our own hearts, encouraged, challenged, convicted, and strengthened.
As we approach Easter Sunday, I hope and pray you will carve out time to personally reflect on the wonders of the Gospel and the power of the resurrection, and also share that together with your children and families, too! Our God is alive! And, because He is our dead and sinful hearts can have new and abundant life in Him! What a reason to celebrate! “‘Death is swallowed up in victory.
What kids and families resources have you used for Easter?
