Are You Battle Ready?

I recently won a copy of Kelly Balarie's (from Purposeful Faith) new book Battle Ready over on Dr. Michelle Bengtson blog. Honestly, I didn't even realize I was entering a contest by commenting on one of her many wonderful posts, but I did. And I WON! 

​I was happy to receive the book as I was planning to order it anyway and I was leaving for vacation and needed a good, physical book (not my Kindle since this would be an off-the-grid vaca). What a delight! First off, to set the stage, let me just share with you what Dr. Bengtson has to say about Battle Ready.

Friend, that is right where I'm at today. I needed this book! I need to be battle ready, and so do you! I'm a born doubter. Even though I was raised to believe that I could be and do anything I set my mind to, I still live in disbelief of my potential. Uncertainty seems to be looming at every turn. Maybe that's you too. So, how do we get past all of that doubt, disbelief, and uncertainty? I'm not going to spoil it for you. Just read Kelly's book!

I want to live up to my God-given potential just as much as you do. But some days it's hard. It's hard to believe when there's doubt, disbelief, and uncertainty clouding your mind. Battle Ready will help you get past all of that once and for all.

7 things I love about this book:

• Who Kelly dedicates it to. "...the one pleading for a lost loved one, the one whose past beats her up, the one who goes to church yet still feels lonely, the one who's done things horribly wrong. It is to you and to me—regular women fighting the good fight." That's me friend. It's me in every way, and quite possibly that is you as well.

• She's got 8 tips for how to use the book. That's helpful! One of her tips is to use a highlighter, and I did, a lot! I used a highlighter from the first page to the last, and everywhere in between. There's so much goodness in this book!

• ​She's honest. Let's be real. It's difficult to be honest with others, and even with ourselves sometimes, especially if people have this preconceived notion of who you are. You don't want to let them down with the ugly truth. Right there in the introduction Kelly admits that this book is her breakthrough. ​​Honesty!
• ​Downloads and more!​ Battle Ready has it's own website. Check it out! And there is so much there for you, friend! You're going to love it. Every chapter sends you to the website for a different, helpful kind of download or something useful that just adds to the book's value to the reader.

• ​Quotes. I like quotes and Kelly is not afraid to quote others. Some authors are, and I'm not really sure why. Personally, I think when you can quote others it brings even that much more validity to your own thoughts and points. This is one of my favorite (non Kelly Balarie) quotes from the book:

• ​Scripture. Kelly uses appropriate Scripture. I think that's important, especially when you're trying to tackle a subject like she has tackled here. We not only need to know what the author has to say, we also, and more importantly, need to know what God has to say. Kelly tell us where to go in Scripture to find the truths she writes of.

• A time of reflection. At the end of each chapter Kelly encourages us to reflect and I love that! We're encouraged to read Scripture, pray, write things down that we're thankful for, examine our minds and our story. Then she leaves us, before entering the next chapter, with a Christ-centered principle. BONUS!
