4 Names of God Found in Psalm 91

Did you know that in Psalm 91:1-2, there are four names of God used? It's the only 2 verses of Scripture where this many names of God are used in one place that I know of. 

"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High [EL ELYON] will abide in the shadow of the Almighty [EL SHADDAI]. I will say to the Lord [ADONAI], 'My refuge and my fortress, my God [ELOHIM], in whom I trust.'” Ps 91:1-2

I discovered these four names of God in Psalm 91 while researching for my book "16 Names of God: a Strong Tower to Run to."

1. EL ELYON (The Most High God)
2. EL SHADDAI (Lord God Almighty)
3. ADONAI (Lord, Master)
4. ELOHIM (God, Judge, Creator)

Let's explore these four names of God and see what we can learn from Psalm 91 today.

In the first two verses of Psalm 91, we encounter not only verses of peace and protection but also a profound revelation of God's multifaceted nature through four distinct names. Within these opening verses, we are encouraged to dwell in the shelter of the Most High and abide in the shadow of the Almighty. Embedded within these two verses lie four names of God that divinely illuminate the depths of His character. Let's meditate on these four names of God today.

1. The first name, El Elyon, reverberates with the greatness of the Most High God. As the Most High, He reigns supreme over all creation, exalted in sovereignty and majesty. In the refuge of His presence, we find security and peace, sheltered beneath His unwavering supremacy.
   
   
2. Next, El Shaddai unveils the unmatched all-sufficiency of our God. As the All-Sufficient One and the Lord God Almighty, He embodies boundless strength and provision. In the shadow of His wings, we discover abundant grace to sustain us through every trial and challenge.
   
   
3. Then, we encounter Adonai, the tender call of our Lord and Master. In surrendering to His Lordship, we find guidance, direction, and purpose. He is the Shepherd of our souls, leading us beside the still waters and restoring our weary souls that so long to be restored by Him.

4. Finally, Elohim unveils the multifaceted nature of our Creator God. As the ultimate Judge, He upholds righteousness and truth. As the sovereign Creator, He fashioned the heavens and the earth with His Word. In Him, we find a refuge, fortress, and the source of our unshakable trust.

As we meditate on these four names of God today, friend, let us be drawn into a deeper relationship with the One who holds all things in His hands. Let's find peace in His presence, strength in His sufficiency, guidance in His lordship, and assurance in His sovereignty. In every season of life, may we declare with unwavering faith, "My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."
