"The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother....
Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart." Proverbs 29:15, 17

Praying Proverbs over your child is a powerful parenting tool! As Christian parents, we are given the incredible responsibility of raising our children to know, love, and follow Christ. This is no small task! The world presents countless influences, distractions, and challenges, making it clear that we cannot do this alone. We need God’s wisdom, guidance, and strength. Thankfully, He has provided us with the perfect resource for character-building—the book of Proverbs.
Why Proverbs? There are countless books written on parenting, but none compare to the wisdom-packed pages of Proverbs. This divinely inspired book is God’s blueprint for raising children who grow into godly, wise adults. By reading, studying, teaching, and most importantly, praying Proverbs over our children, we invite God’s truth to shape their hearts and minds.
Proverbs is filled with practical instruction on topics like honesty, diligence, kindness, self-control, humility, and reverence for the Lord. It teaches the value of wisdom and the dangers of foolishness, equipping our children with the discernment they need to navigate life’s challenges.

So, how can you use Proverbs in parenting? There are many ways to incorporate Proverbs into your parenting, here are two simple methods to get started:
- Praying Specific Proverbs Over Your Child
Proverbs addresses nearly every aspect of life. Identify verses that relate to your child’s needs and struggles, and turn them into prayers. Whether it’s wisdom (Proverbs 2:6), kindness (Proverbs 11:17), or self-control (Proverbs 25:28), God’s Word is powerful when spoken in prayer. - The Chapter-a-Day Method
Since Proverbs has 31 chapters, you can read one chapter each day as a family. Simply start with the chapter that corresponds with today’s date. This rhythm helps establish a habit of daily wisdom-filled conversations with your children.
I wrote "Hey Mama! PRAY" as a parenting resource for you! As I wrote this great resource, I realized that the wisdom in Proverbs applied not only to my children but also to myself. Parenting is a refining process, shaping us just as much as we shape our little ones. Through this series, we’ll walk through key Proverbs and how we can intentionally pray them over our children—and ourselves.
