When Rhoda announces Peter is at the gate, the praying believers respond with disbelief: “You are out of your mind.” Even Peter himself struggled to believe what was happening in the moment, thinking it was a vision and not reality.
What a vivid reminder: sometimes our prayers are filled with more desperation than faith, but God moves anyway. God moves, even when our faith is small. Jesus said faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains (Matthew 17:20). That’s what we see here. The church prayed, but their expectation was weak. Still, God answered abundantly beyond what they could ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20), because God’s power isn’t dependent on our perfection. The miracle wasn’t delayed until their faith was strong enough. God moved because He is faithful, not because they had it all together. This should encourage us: God’s power rests on His character, not our performance. But prayer is still essential, even with little faith. Though their faith wavered, the believers were still praying. Their prayers, however imperfect, were the vehicle God used to unleash His miraculous rescue. Prayer matters—not because we pray perfectly, but because we pray to a perfect God. When the church finally saw Peter standing before them, they were astonished. May we never lose that awe when God answers prayer, even when it comes in ways we least expect.
Acts 12 reminds us that our little faith is not a barrier to God’s big miracles. When we pray, we come to a God who is able, willing, and sovereign. Even when doubt lingers in our hearts, God’s power prevails. So keep praying, friend, even if your faith feels small. God delights in showing Himself mighty in the midst of our weakness.
If God moves powerfully even when our faith is small, how might He be inviting you to pray more boldly instead of more perfectly?
