The Feast of Trumpets is a call to repentance and a prophetic picture of the return of Jesus Christ. In 2025, the Feast of Trumpet takes place from sunset on September 22 to sunset on September 24. This feast, also known as Yom Teruah or Rosh Hashanah, is one of the seven biblical feasts given by God in Leviticus 23. It marks the beginning of the Fall Feasts and carries with it deep prophetic significance, especially regarding Christ’s second coming.
"And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 'Speak to the people of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe a day of solemn rest, a memorial proclaimed with blast of trumpets, a holy convocation. You shall not do any ordinary work, and you shall present a food offering to the Lord.'” Leviticus 23:23-25
Let's look at the biblical foundations of the Feast of Trumpets. In the Old Testament we see this feast as a holy day of blowing trumpets.
So what is the symbolism of the trumpet or shofar? It held great spiritual significance:
How do we see the fulfillment of the Feast of Trumpets in the New Testament? We see it in Christ’s imminent return.
The Feast of Trumpets is a call to repentance and readiness. The feast initiates ten days of reflection leading up to the Day of Atonement. Jesus’ parables in Matthew 25 urge us to be spiritually prepared for His second coming. So what is the spiritual significance for us as believers? It's a call to wake up! In Romans 13:11 we read "It is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed." The trumpet calls us to spiritual alertness and renewed devotion to Christ. The Feast of Trumpets is a prophetic foreshadowing of the Rapture. Just as trumpets gathered Israel, Jesus will gather His Church with the sound of a trumpet. This feast is also the prophetic foreshadowing of the coronation of the King. In Jewish tradition, Rosh Hashanah celebrates God’s Kingship. The Feast of Trumpets prophetically points to Christ returning as King of kings (Rev. 19:16).
The Feast of Trumpets is more than just a historical observance. It is a divine appointment that calls us to repent, watch, worship, and prepare. It reminds us to live in holiness, stay spiritually awake, and eagerly anticipate the glorious return of our King, Jesus Christ. Let the sound of the trumpet stir your heart to readiness!
How would your daily life look different if you truly lived in anticipation of the trumpet sound and Christ’s return?
