Sweeter Than Honey: The People God Uses

Discover how #God delights in using the humble, weak, and ordinary to display His #wisdom and strength in #SweeterThanHoney: The People God Uses. Based on 1 #Corinthians 1:18-31, this #devotional explores how God chooses unlikely people to fulfill His divine purposes, reminding us that #true power and wisdom come from #Christ alone. Be #encouraged to embrace your calling and boast only in the #Lord as you walk #faithfully in His strength and #purpose. #BibleStudy #BibleReading #BibleReadingPlan
What if we spent a few quiet moments with God each morning? What if we were intentional about making time for it? And what if we committed to doing that all year long—only to find that by the end of the year, we had read the entirety of God’s Word—His love letter to us?

How many times have you, on January 1, resolved to read the Bible from cover to cover in a year? I’ve made that commitment more times than I can count—and I’ve failed more times than I’d like to admit. But a few years ago, I tried something different. I used a one-year, chronological order of book authorship Bible Reading Itinerary.

Did you know that Genesis wasn’t the first book of the Bible written? While these plans can vary—since it’s impossible to pinpoint exact dates for some books—the plan I used began with the book of Job.

Sweeter Than Honey is a 365-day devotional journey that leads the reader
through God's Word in chronological order of book authorship.

Sweeter Than Honey
Let me introduce you to Sweeter Than Honey: A 365-Day Devotional Journey, a devotional patterned after that Bible Reading Itinerary. On Tuesdays, through the end of the year, I’d love for you to join me as we journey through parts of Sweeter Than Honey together!

As we look ahead to 2026, why not make a plan now—either on your own or with your small group, Sunday school class, or women’s Bible study—to read through the Bible together using the Sweeter Than Honey Bible Reading Plan? Imagine the growth, encouragement, and community that could come from walking through God’s Word side by side for an entire year!

1 Corinthians 1-3: The People God Uses

Paul begins his first letter to the church at Corinth with this greeting, “To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 1:2). Paul is not only writing to the Corinthian people, but he is also writing to us—"…to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1:2). One of the many things he writes about is Christ’s being the wisdom and power of God.
"For the Word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written,

‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.’

Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of Him you are in Christ Jesus, Who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.’” (1 Cor. 1:18-31)
Paul writes, “For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men” (1:25). Paul reminds the Corinthians that they are not wise according to worldly standards or powerful or of noble birth. Then he goes on to tell us what kinds of people God chooses to use to display His wisdom and strength.

Let’s see if we can find and record the three kinds of people God chooses:
  1. “God chose what is..." (1:27)
  2. “God chose what is..." (1:27)
  3. “God chose what is..." (1:28)
How does understanding that God delights in using the weak, humble, and ordinary to accomplish His purposes change the way you view your own calling and usefulness in His Kingdom?
About Sweeter Than Honey
Spending time in God’s Word each day changes everything. It brings peace in chaos, strength in weakness, and direction for whatever lies ahead. Scripture truly is God’s Love Letter to us—personal, powerful, and life-giving.

Even in our busiest seasons, there’s always time to meet with Him—early in the morning, late at night, or somewhere in between. When we make space for His Word, we allow His truth to shape our thoughts, guide our steps, and overflow into the lives of those around us.
Sweeter Than Honey
That’s why I created Sweeter Than Honey—a 365-day devotional journey designed to help busy women read through the entire Bible in one year. Inspired by Psalm 119:103—“How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”—this devotional offers daily encouragement rooted in Scripture.

Each day includes a short devotion and reading itinerary that follows the Bible in chronological order of book authorship. By year’s end, you’ll have read the entire Bible while deepening your relationship with the Author Himself.

You’ll find encouragement on every page to seek God first, experience His presence in new ways, and live each day with purpose and peace. Sweeter Than Honey isn’t just another devotional—it’s a keepsake for your journey of faith.

Join the private Facebook group to connect with other believers, share insights, and grow together in God’s Word.

What Readers Are Saying
"Sweeter Than Honey is a breath of fresh air for anyone seeking a meaningful and intentional approach to daily Bible study. The author's focus on providing a manageable plan for busy women to read through the Bible in a year is both practical and inspiring. The book's foundation in Psalm 119:103 sets the tone for a journey that is not only enriching but also sweet to the soul. The chronological order of book authorship adds a unique dimension to this devotional, allowing readers to experience the overarching narrative of the Bible in a cohesive way. Each of the 365 devotions is carefully written to offer encouragement, peace, and strength, making it a valuable companion for daily reflection and connection with God. The spiritual emphasis throughout the book challenges readers to prioritize seeking God daily, creating a space for a deeper relationship with God and intentional Christian living. In conclusion, I've found this book to be more than just another devotional that sits on my bookshelf; it's an intentional and transformative journey that guides readers to seek God's presence in their daily lives." —Evelyn

It's important to be saturated with God's Word, to read often and regularly—preferably daily! And I think it's also important to read from cover to cover every so often so we don't lose touch with the big story.

Thank you so much for this thoughtful comment, Michele!! :) I absolutely agree with you—being saturated with God’s Word through consistent, daily reading is so important. And reading through the entire Bible from cover to cover—whether on a yearly plan or in a longer rhythm—offers that much-needed big-picture view of God’s story.

In fact, the devotional Sweeter Than Honey: A 365‑Day Devotional Journey leans right into this idea: Spending time in God’s Word each day changes everything. It brings peace in chaos, strength in weakness, and direction for whatever lies ahead.

So your point is spot-on and beautifully connects with the post.

Thanks again for adding your voice!
