Sweeter Than Honey: It Is Good, Finished, and Done

12/31/2024

From #Genesis to #Revelation, #God's Word is His divine Love Letter. In Genesis, we see the beauty of creation as God declares, “It was very good” (Genesis 1:31). On the cross, Jesus cried, “It is finished” (John 19:30), paying the ultimate price for our sins and fulfilling the plan of #salvation. In Revelation, we glimpse the promise of a new #Heaven and new earth. Jesus declares, “Behold, I am making all things new…It is done! I am the #Alpha and the #Omega” (Revelation 21:5-6). #BibleStudy
What if we spent a few quiet moments with God each morning? What if we were intentional about making time for it? And what if we committed to doing that all year long, only to find that by the end of the year, we had read the entirety of God's Word—His Love Letter to us?

How many times have you, on January 1, resolved to read the Bible from cover to cover in a year? I’ve made that commitment more times than I can count, and I’ve failed more times than I’d like to admit. But a few years ago, I tried something different—I used a one-year, chronological order of book authorship, Bible Reading Itinerary. Did you know that Genesis wasn’t the first book of the Bible written? While these plans can vary, since it's impossible to pinpoint exact dates for some books, the plan I used began with the book of Job. Let me introduce you to Sweeter Than Honey, a book patterned after that Bible Reading Itinerary.

Sweeter Than Honey is a 365-day devotional journey that leads the reader
through God's Word in chronological order of book authorship.

Sweeter Than Honey
Thank you for joining me, over the past few months, as we traveled through parts of Sweeter Than Honey together! I also encourage you to join the private Sweeter Than Honey Facebook group, where you can share your thoughts and connect with like-minded, Christian friends.

Revelation 21-22: It Is Good, Finished, and Done!

From beginning to the end, God’s Word is His Love Letter to us inviting us to “Come” and offering us “the water of life without price" (Revelation 22:17).

In Genesis, we read the account of creation—a perfect earth. God, “saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31). Of course, we know that soon after creation, man brought sin into the world by his disobedience to God and the payment for sin was the sacrifice of God’s only Son.

In the book of John, the Apostle John records the crucifixion as Jesus, hanging on that cross for you and me said, “‘It is finished,’ and He bowed His head and gave up His spirit" (John 19:30).

Finally, here near the end of Revelation, we read John’s account of his vision of the new Heaven and new earth and he writes, “And He Who was seated on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ Also He said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.’ And He said to me, ‘It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end’” (Revelation 21:5-6).
It is good. It is finished. It is done!
“And God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. Thus the Heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them." Genesis 1:31-2:1
"After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), ‘I thirst.’ A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to His mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished,’ and He bowed His head and gave up His spirit." John 19:28-30
“Then I saw a new Heaven and a new earth, for the first Heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the Holy City, new Jerusalem, coming down out of Heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.’

And He Who was seated on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ Also He said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.’ And He said to me, ‘It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be My son.’" Revelation 21:1-7
How does knowing that God's plan of redemption is "good, finished, and done" transform the way you view your past, present, and future in Him?

About Sweeter Than Honey

When I read God’s Word each morning, it brings inspiration and insight that guides my day. Let's treat His Word as the Love Letter it truly is, finding peace in chaos and strength in our weaknesses.

Even on our busiest days, we can carve out a few minutes to focus on what truly matters. Whether it's early in the morning when the house is quiet or late at night after everyone else is asleep, we can make time for God’s Word.

Let's be intentional, letting His truths inspire us to live out our faith daily, in a way that draws others to the peace and joy we've found in Him.
Sweeter Than Honey
Remember, God sees you, knows you by name, and cares about every detail of your life. Let's dive into His Love Letter, together!

My top tip for successful Bible study? Be intentional with a plan. Without one, it's unlikely to happen. That's why I created Sweeter Than Honey—to give busy women like us a manageable, attainable plan to read through the Bible in a year.

Sweeter Than Honey is a 365-day devotional journey inspired by Psalm 119:103: “How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” This book is designed to help you find peace amid chaos and strength in your weakest moments, all while encouraging you in your daily walk with God. Each day’s reading itinerary and devotion will guide you through God’s Word, in chronological order of book authorship, and by year's end you will have read through the entire Bible!

“You’ll find encouragement on every page of this book—encouragement to seek God above all else. The strong, spiritual emphasis will challenge you to turn to God for daily direction and experience His presence in a whole new and intentional way. Sweeter Than Honey will become more to you than just another daily devotional, it will become a keepsake as you record prayers and participate in thought-provoking, practical exercises that touch every aspect of your life and draw you closer to our Creator.” —from the Prologue
