2 Chronicles 4-6 gives us a glimpse of Heaven! The sight of Solomon bringing the Ark of the Covenant into the Temple reminds us that this world is not our home. God’s glory fills His house, and His steadfast love endures forever! Heaven awaits, friend, filled with God's glory! Read more and reflect on the hope of eternity. #GloriousHope #2Chronicles #Heavenward #JesusSaves #FaithJourney #BibleReflections #SweeterThanHoney #BibleReadingPlan #DailyDevotional #ChristianBooks #BibleStudy #Scripture
What if we spent a few quiet moments with God each morning? What if we were intentional about making time for it? And what if we committed to doing that all year long, only to find that by the end of the year, we had read the entirety of God's Word—His Love Letter to us?

How many times have you, on January 1, resolved to read the Bible from cover to cover in a year? I’ve made that commitment more times than I can count, and I’ve failed more times than I’d like to admit. But a few years ago, I tried something different—I used a one-year, chronological order of book authorship, Bible Reading Itinerary. Did you know that Genesis wasn’t the first book of the Bible written? While these plans can vary, since it's impossible to pinpoint exact dates for some books, the plan I used began with the book of Job. Let me introduce you to Sweeter Than Honey, a book patterned after that Bible Reading Itinerary.

Sweeter Than Honey is a 365-day devotional journey that leads the reader
through God's Word in chronological order of book authorship.

On Tuesdays, through the end of the year, I’d love for you to join me as we travel through parts of Sweeter Than Honey together! I also encourage you to join the private Sweeter Than Honey Facebook group, where you can share your thoughts and connect with like-minded, Christian friends.

2 Chronicles 4-6: A Little Glimpse of Heaven

When I read chapter 5 of 2 Chronicles, and see King Solomon as he brings the Ark of the Covenant into the newly constructed Temple, I get so excited for Heaven! This world is not my home, I know! That seems more and more clear every day. I hope it seems as clear to you also. If it does, you too will enjoy reading this passage and seeing just a little glimpse of what Heaven might be like.
“Thus all the work that Solomon did for the house of the Lord was finished. And Solomon brought in the things that David his father had dedicated, and stored the silver, the gold, and all the vessels in the treasuries of the house of God.

Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers' houses of the people of Israel, in Jerusalem, to bring up the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord out of the city of David, which is Zion. And all the men of Israel assembled before the king at the feast that is in the seventh month. And all the elders of Israel came, and the Levites took up the ark. And they brought up the ark, the Tent of Meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the tent; the Levitical priests brought them up. And King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, who had assembled before him, were before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered. Then the priests brought the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord to its place, in the inner sanctuary of the house, in the Most Holy Place, underneath the wings of the cherubim. The cherubim spread out their wings over the place of the ark, so that the cherubim made a covering above the ark and its poles. And the poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the Holy Place before the inner sanctuary, but they could not be seen from outside. And they are there to this day. There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses put there at Horeb, where the Lord made a covenant with the people of Israel, when they came out of Egypt. And when the priests came out of the Holy Place (for all the priests who were present had consecrated themselves, without regard to their divisions, and all the Levitical singers, Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun, their sons and kinsmen, arrayed in fine linen, with cymbals, harps, and lyres, stood east of the altar with 120 priests who were trumpeters; and it was the duty of the trumpeters and singers to make themselves heard in unison in praise and thanksgiving to the Lord), and when the song was raised, with trumpets and cymbals and other musical instruments, in praise to the Lord,

‘For He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever,’

the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.” (2 Chron. 5:1-14)
I pray this chapter gives you a little glimpse of Heaven today, friend, and that you know there is hope found in a personal relationship with Jesus. For He is good, and His steadfast love does endure forever!
How does Solomon’s dedication of the Temple in 2 Chronicles, with God’s glory filling His house, shape your view of what Heaven will be like?

My top tip for successful Bible study? Be intentional with a plan. Without one, it's unlikely to happen. That's why I created Sweeter Than Honey—to give busy women like us a manageable, attainable plan to read through the Bible in a year.

Sweeter Than Honey is a 365-day devotional journey inspired by Psalm 119:103: “How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” This book is designed to help you find peace amid chaos and strength in your weakest moments, all while encouraging you in your daily walk with God. Each day’s reading itinerary and devotion will guide you through God’s Word, in chronological order of book authorship, and by year's end you will have read through the entire Bible!

“You’ll find encouragement on every page of this book—encouragement to seek God above all else. The strong, spiritual emphasis will challenge you to turn to God for daily direction and experience His presence in a whole new and intentional way. Sweeter Than Honey will become more to you than just another daily devotional, it will become a keepsake as you record prayers and participate in thought-provoking, practical exercises that touch every aspect of your life and draw you closer to our Creator.” —from the Prologue

I read through the Chronological Bible in a Year a few years ago - and it was life-changing. I have missed what that structure provided - I am intrigued about your bible in a year chronicled through authorship. It seems like it would definitely help solidify the timeline of events.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with reading the Bible chronologically, Maryleigh—it truly is life-changing any way you read God's Word!!

I have found from my own personal experience that the structure of reading through the Bible in a year, chronologically by authorship, definitely helps to deepen your understanding of the timeline of events and how everything connects.

I’m glad you’re intrigued by this approach!

It’s amazing how seeing the progression of God’s story unfold can strengthen our faith and help solidify the big picture of His plan.

I'd love to hear how it goes if you decide to dive in again! :)
