This journey is rooted in the rhythm of Prayer, Praise, and Promise—a reminder that God is our refuge, our joy, and the faithful Keeper of every soul. As we lift our prodigals before Him, we also allow His Word to strengthen our hearts in the waiting.
Your prayers matter, friend. Your faith is not in vain. The Father still calls His children by name, and His arms remain open. I hope you'll also join us over in the private Prodigal Prayers Facebook group and walk this journey with others who believe in the power of prayer. Let’s begin again today—trusting God together. A Prayer for Salvation
I often find solace in the Psalms. Today, I find myself immersed in the verses of Psalm 98, tracing the contours of joyous praise and discovering a profound prayer for the prodigal. In the margin of my Bible, beside verse 3, I have written, "pray over the prodigal."
"He has remembered His steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God." Psalm 98:3 This verse is a plea for our wandering prodigal to witness the salvation of our God. This verse is a plea for us to witness the salvation of our God—as only God can accomplish. Our desire is not merely that the prodigal avoids certain actions, but that they encounter the unyielding love and faithfulness of God, ultimately embracing His redeeming salvation freely offered to them. For years, my prayers over the prodigal have been entwined with specific hopes and fears. I hoped they would not do this or that. I feared what would happen if they didn’t. However, a transformative shift in my prayers over the prodigal has occurred over the past few years. No longer do I pray that they would not do this or that, or even fear the outcome of if they continued in their wayward life choices. I’ve come to the understanding that the ultimate goal is for the prodigal to know God intimately, to witness His steadfast love, and to accept the free gift of salvation. In this profound realization, the peripheral concerns dissipate, and the outcome is entirely entrusted to the divine work of an Almighty God whose desire is to redeem and restore His creation. This is the Shepherd who leaves the 99 and goes after the 1 to bring them home to Himself.
Venturing on into Psalm 99, we visit a trio of verses that draw our attention to the utter holiness of God. In a society often characterized by casualness, these verses become a beckoning call to recognize and exalt the holiness of the Almighty.
"Let them praise Your great and awesome name! Holy is He!" Psalm 99:3 "Exalt the Lord our God; worship at His footstool! Holy is He!" Psalm 99:5 "Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at His holy mountain; for the Lord our God is holy!" Psalm 99:9 These verses resound with a call to praise, exalt, and worship the holiness of God. In a world that often trivializes the sacred, these words serve as a gentle reminder to approach the divine with awe and reverence. As we pray over the prodigal, asking God to rain down His gift of salvation on them, let us echo the sentiments of Psalm 98-99. May our supplications be imbued with the hope that the prodigal will indeed witness the salvation of our God, that they will come to know the steadfast love and faithfulness that emanate from the holy character of the Almighty. In this journey of praying over the prodigal, may we find assurance in the holiness of God, trusting that He is at work, even in the seemingly distant corners of a prodigal's heart. Heavenly Father,
Are your prayers for the prodigal focused more on changing their behavior—or on asking God to reveal Himself so deeply that true salvation transforms everything?
