This journey is rooted in the rhythm of Prayer, Praise, and Promise—a reminder that God is our refuge, our joy, and the faithful Keeper of every soul. As we lift our prodigals before Him, we also allow His Word to strengthen our hearts in the waiting.
Your prayers matter, friend. Your faith is not in vain. The Father still calls His children by name, and His arms remain open. I hope you'll also join us over in the private Prodigal Prayers Facebook group and walk this journey with others who believe in the power of prayer. Let’s begin again today—trusting God together. A Prayer for Transformation
This week, we will pray over our prodigal using passages in Ephesians 3-5. We will stand on the promises and truths of God’s Word while interceding for our prodigal, who has strayed from their faith, asking for their heart to be softened and restored to the Lord. In these passages, we find many powerful truths that speak to both the prodigal’s condition and God’s desire to draw them back to Himself. Let’s look at these powerful promises in God’s Word as we pray over our prodigal:
Praying for God’s Abundant Power (Ephesians 3:20-21)
"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21
This passage reminds us that God is able to do exceedingly more than we ask or think. When praying over our prodigal, it’s essential to hold on tightly to this truth—that God’s power, working through the Holy Spirit, can reach even the hardest heart. As you pray, declare that God’s ability to heal, restore, and bring the prodigal back to Himself is far greater than what you can even imagine. Ask Him to work in their life in ways beyond what seems possible, according to His mighty power.
Interceding for a Heart Change (Ephesians 4:18-24)
"They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the
ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. But that is not the way you learned Christ!—assuming that you have heard about Him and were taught in Him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness." Ephesians 4:18-24
This passage provides a picture of the prodigal: darkened in understanding, alienated from God, and hardened in heart. However, it also offers us hope! As you pray, ask God to open the prodigal’s eyes to see the futility of their current way of living and the beauty of life with Christ. Pray for their heart to be softened and for their mind to be renewed. Ask the Lord to help them put off their old self and embrace the new self in Christ, which is full of righteousness and holiness. As Paul describes the former life of the Ephesians and the call to "put on the new self" (Ephesians 4:24), pray that the prodigal will come to this point of transformation. Call on the Holy Spirit to convict them, bringing them to a place of repentance where they can walk in the truth of Jesus.
As you intercede for your prodigal this week, pray for their future walk with God. Ask the Lord to help them walk in love and light as outlined in Ephesians 5. Pray that when they return to Him, they will be imitators of God, redeeming the time in every way to glorify Him. Through Ephesians 3-5, we see the deep richness of God’s grace, His power to redeem, and His desire for His children to walk in truth. Praying these passages over our prodigal allows us to stand firm on God’s promises, interceding for the prodigal’s transformation and return to God Himself. Heavenly Father,
As you pray for your prodigal this week, are you allowing what you can see today to limit what you ask of the God who is able to do “far more abundantly than all that we ask or think”?
