Prodigal Prayers: Week 26

6/30/2026

Prodigal Prayers Week 26: A Prayer for Boldness is a powerful Christian devotional based on Matthew 21:21-22. Learn how bold, faith-filled prayer can move mountains as you intercede for prodigals. This Bible study highlights trusting God’s promises, praying for heart transformation, and persevering in prayer. Grow in spiritual boldness, deepen your prayer life, and rest in God’s power to restore, redeem, and do the impossible.
Welcome, friend.

If you’re here, it’s likely because you love someone who has wandered—or because your own heart knows what it feels like to wait, hope, and pray through the ache of distance. You’ve prayed. You’ve wept. You’ve waited. And today, once again, you are choosing to press in.

In 2026, we are walking this road together.

Each Tuesday, we gather here to work through Prodigal Prayers: 52 Weeks of Praying Over the Prodigal—one week at a time, one Scripture, one prayer, one promise.

There is no rushing here and no falling behind. Come when you can. Stay as long as you need. This is a place for steady faith, honest prayers, and hope that is anchored in our faithful God and refuses to give up.
Prodigal Prayers flatlay
This journey is rooted in the rhythm of Prayer, Praise, and Promise—a reminder that God is our refuge, our joy, and the faithful Keeper of every soul. As we lift our prodigals before Him, we also allow His Word to strengthen our hearts in the waiting.

Your prayers matter, friend. Your faith is not in vain. The Father still calls His children by name, and His arms remain open.

I hope you'll also join us over in the private
Prodigal Prayers Facebook group and walk this journey with others who believe in the power of prayer.

Let’s begin again today—trusting God together.

A Prayer for Boldness

The journey of praying for a prodigal—someone who has strayed from their faith or chosen a path away from God—can be heart-wrenching and fraught with feelings of despair and helplessness. Yet, as believers, we are called to persist boldly in prayer with unwavering faith. Matthew 21:21-22 offers us profound encouragement: "And Jesus answered them, 'Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, Be taken up and thrown into the sea, it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.'" This passage reminds us that our big bold prayers, when anchored in faith, hold immense power. When praying over a prodigal, it is essential to approach God with the same boldness and conviction described in Matthew 21 by Jesus. Here are some key points to consider and include in your prayers:

  1. Faith and Trust in God’s Promises: Jesus emphasizes the importance of faith without doubt—bold prayers, bold faith. This is not a mere wishful thinking but a deep, abiding trust in God's promises. When praying for your prodigal, remind yourself of God's faithfulness and His ability to work miracles. Scriptures like Isaiah 55:11 assure us that God's Word does not return void but accomplishes what He desires.
  2. Pray for Heart Transformation: Let’s pray boldly and specifically for our prodigal's heart to be softened and open to God's love and truth. Ezekiel 36:26 says, "… I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." Ask God to remove any barriers or hardened areas in their heart that prevent them from returning to Him.
  3. Claim God’s Promises: Scripture is full of promises about God's desire for all to come to repentance and the knowledge of truth (2 Peter 3:9, 1 Timothy 2:4). Stand boldly on these promises as we intercede for your prodigal. Use Scripture to guide your prayers, reinforcing your bold faith in God's will and His power to bring the prodigal back home to Himself.
  4. Perseverance in Prayer: Persistent prayer is crucial. Luke 18:1-8 recounts the parable of the persistent widow, which teaches us the importance of not giving up. Never give up! Continue to pray boldly, earnestly, and regularly, even when there are no immediate signs of change. Trust that God is at work behind the scenes, because He is.
  5. Pray for Surrounding Influences: Ask God to place the right people in your prodigal's life who will positively influence and guide them back to faith. Pray for mentors, friends, and circumstances that will lead them to experience God's love in a real and tangible way.
  6. Pray for Your Own Heart: While interceding for the prodigal’s heart, it’s important that you also pray for your own heart. Ask God to give you peace, patience, and unwavering bold faith. Pray for wisdom to know how to love and support your prodigal. And never forget gratitude! Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us to bring our requests to God with thanksgiving, promising that His peace will guard our hearts and minds.
Praying over your prodigal is an act of bold faith and trust in God. As you pray, hold firmly to the assurance given in Matthew 21:21-22. Your prayers, fueled by your bold faith and persistent love, can move mountains and transform the life of your prodigal. Continue to intercede, believe in God's timing, and trust that He is working all things together for good.
Heavenly Father,
I come boldly before You with a heavy heart, lifting up my prodigal before Your throne of grace. Your Word assures me in Matthew 21:21-22 that if I have faith and do not doubt, I can move mountains through prayer. Today, I stand boldly on this promise, believing that You have the power to bring my prodigal back to You.

Lord, strengthen my faith as I pray. Help me to trust boldly, without wavering, in Your unfailing love and Your ability to transform the heart of my prodigal. Your promises in Isaiah 55:11 and Ezekiel 36:26 give me hope that Your Word will not return void and that You can soften even the hardest heart.

I pray specifically for my prodigal's heart, today Lord. Remove any barriers and soften the stony places, replacing them with a heart of flesh that is open to Your love and truth. Draw them back to You, Lord, and surround them with people who will guide them spiritually in the right direction.
Help me to remain steadfast in bold prayer, Father. Like the persistent widow in Luke 18, may I never, never give up, trusting that You are working even when I cannot see It, trusting that You are working even when I do not feel it. Give me the patience and peace that comes from knowing You are in total control of this situation.

Finally Father, I ask for Your grace over my own heart. Grant me the wisdom, peace, and unwavering bold faith to continue this journey. Let my prayers be filled with thanksgiving, knowing that Your peace will guard my heart and mind. Thank You, Lord, for hearing my prayer. I trust in Your timing and Your perfect plan.

In Jesus' name, amen.
What would change in your prayers—and your faith—if you truly believed that God could move mountains in the life of your prodigal?

Thank you for that encouragement, Michele!! :) It really is such a needed reminder, isn’t it? We can so easily pray small, safe prayers—but we serve a God who does the impossible.

I love how you said “mountain-moving God”—because that truth changes everything. When we truly believe it, our prayers grow bolder, our faith deepens, and our hope becomes anchored in Him, not our circumstances.
