Prodigal Prayers: Week 25

6/23/2026

Prodigal Prayers Week 25: A Prayer for Impossibilities is a powerful Christian devotional rooted in Matthew 18:12-14 and Matthew 19:26. Discover how to pray for prodigals with faith, hope, and persistence. Learn about God’s pursuit, protection, and transforming power through intercessory prayer. This Bible study encourages spiritual growth, trust in God’s timing, and confidence that nothing is impossible with Him.
Welcome, friend.

If you’re here, it’s likely because you love someone who has wandered—or because your own heart knows what it feels like to wait, hope, and pray through the ache of distance. You’ve prayed. You’ve wept. You’ve waited. And today, once again, you are choosing to press in.

In 2026, we are walking this road together.

Each Tuesday, we gather here to work through Prodigal Prayers: 52 Weeks of Praying Over the Prodigal—one week at a time, one Scripture, one prayer, one promise.

There is no rushing here and no falling behind. Come when you can. Stay as long as you need. This is a place for steady faith, honest prayers, and hope that is anchored in our faithful God and refuses to give up.
Prodigal Prayers
This journey is rooted in the rhythm of Prayer, Praise, and Promise—a reminder that God is our refuge, our joy, and the faithful Keeper of every soul. As we lift our prodigals before Him, we also allow His Word to strengthen our hearts in the waiting.

Your prayers matter, friend. Your faith is not in vain. The Father still calls His children by name, and His arms remain open.

I hope you'll also join us over in the private
Prodigal Prayers Facebook group and walk this journey with others who believe in the power of prayer.

Let’s begin again today—trusting God together.

A Prayer for Impossibilities

In the margin of my Bible, beside Matthew 18:12-14 and Matthew 19:26, I have written "pray over the prodigal." These passages are deeply comforting and instructive when praying for loved ones who have strayed from the faith.
"What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray,
does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray?
And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. So it is not the will of my Father who is in Heaven that one of these little ones should perish." Matthew 18:12-14
Matthew 18:12-14, the parable of the lost sheep, tells the story of a shepherd with a hundred sheep. When one goes astray, he leaves the ninety-nine to search for the lost one. Jesus explains that the shepherd rejoices more over the one found sheep than the ninety-nine that never strayed. This parable emphasizes God's relentless pursuit and immense joy over the return of any lost soul. When praying for the prodigal, we can take solace in knowing that God is actively seeking them out, and their return brings great joy in Heaven.
"But Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible,
but with God all things are possible.’" Matthew 19:26
Matthew 19:26 reminds us that all things are possible with God. What seems impossible for humans is always possible with God. This verse strengthens our faith and hope as we intercede for our prodigal. No matter how far they have wandered, God’s power to transform and redeem lives is boundless.

When we are praying over the prodigal, it's important for us to pray with faith and hope.
How to pray with faith and hope:
  • Pray for God's Pursuit: Ask God to seek out your prodigal as the shepherd seeks the lost sheep. Pray for divine encounters and that God’s love and truth will reach their heart.
  • Pray for Protection: Request God's protection over them, that they are kept safe and that harmful influences are kept at bay.
  • Pray for Transformation: Invoke Matthew 19:26, praying for their heart to be transformed. Trust in God's ability to do the impossible, restoring and renewing their faith.
  • Express Gratitude: Thank God for His unwavering love and pursuit of the prodigal. Rejoice in the knowledge that Heaven celebrates the return of each lost soul.

Incorporating these Scriptures into your prodigal prayers can bring comfort and hope, reinforcing the belief that no one is beyond God's reach and that His love is always active, always pursuing, and always ready to welcome the prodigal home.
Heavenly Father,

In the margin of my Bible, beside Matthew 18:12-14 and Matthew 19:26, I have written “pray over the prodigal.” These passages are deeply comforting and instructive as I lift up my prodigal who has strayed from You.

Father, I cling to Your relentless pursuit of their lost soul. I know that You are actively seeking out my prodigal, just as the shepherd searches for the lost sheep. Your heart rejoices over every soul that returns to You, and I pray with confidence knowing that it is Your will that none should perish.

Lord, I am often overwhelmed by the impossibility of the situation, but Your Word reminds me that what is impossible with man is possible with You. I trust in Your boundless power to transform and redeem the life of my prodigal. No matter how far this one has wandered, Your reach is greater, and Your love is stronger. I believe that in faith and therein lies my hope.

I pray for Your divine pursuit of my prodigal, Lord Jesus. Let Your love and truth penetrate their heart and soul. Protect them from harmful influences and keep them safe as You guide them back to Your fold. Father, transform their heart. Do the impossible, restoring and renewing their faith. Let them experience Your grace and mercy in a divine and profound way.

I thank You, Lord, for Your unwavering love and pursuit of the prodigal. I rejoice in the assurance that Heaven celebrates the return of each lost soul. Strengthen my faith and hope as I continue to intercede for my loved one, trusting in Your mighty power to bring them home.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
If God is already pursuing the one who has wandered, how might your prayers shift from striving in worry to trusting in His power to do what feels impossible?
