Prodigal Prayers: Week 23

6/9/2026

Prodigal Prayers Week 23: A Prayer for Eyes is a powerful Christian prayer for prodigals, focusing on spiritual blindness and God’s ability to open hearts. This Bible-based devotional helps you pray for a wandering loved one, asking God to reveal truth, remove deception, and draw them back. Grow in faith, trust God’s power to transform lives, and strengthen your prayer life as you intercede with hope, Scripture, and confidence in His saving grace.
Welcome, friend.

If you’re here, it’s likely because you love someone who has wandered—or because your own heart knows what it feels like to wait, hope, and pray through the ache of distance. You’ve prayed. You’ve wept. You’ve waited. And today, once again, you are choosing to press in.

In 2026, we are walking this road together.

Each Tuesday, we gather here to work through Prodigal Prayers: 52 Weeks of Praying Over the Prodigal—one week at a time, one Scripture, one prayer, one promise.

There is no rushing here and no falling behind. Come when you can. Stay as long as you need. This is a place for steady faith, honest prayers, and hope that is anchored in our faithful God and refuses to give up.
Prodigal Prayers
This journey is rooted in the rhythm of Prayer, Praise, and Promise—a reminder that God is our refuge, our joy, and the faithful Keeper of every soul. As we lift our prodigals before Him, we also allow His Word to strengthen our hearts in the waiting.

Your prayers matter, friend. Your faith is not in vain. The Father still calls His children by name, and His arms remain open.

I hope you'll also join us over in the private
Prodigal Prayers Facebook group and walk this journey with others who believe in the power of prayer.

Let’s begin again today—trusting God together.

A Prayer for Eyes

"For this people's heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear,
and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears
and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them." Matthew 13:15
In the parable of the prodigal son, we witness a profound story of estrangement, realization, and ultimately, redemption. This narrative beautifully mirrors Matthew 13:15, where Jesus speaks of hearts that have grown dull, ears that barely hear, and eyes that have closed. This verse not only highlights the spiritual lethargy that can afflict individuals but also extends a powerful promise of healing and restoration for those who turn back to God.

When praying over a prodigal, it is essential to anchor our prayers in the hope and assurance provided by Scriptures like Matthew 13:15. We acknowledge the current state of their heart, possibly hardened by the world, dulled by distractions, and closed off to the divine whispers of God’s love and guidance. Yet, we do not despair; instead, we persist in prayer, believing in the transformative power of God’s grace.

This week, we want to pray that our prodigals have eyes to see and understand their condition.

We are asking God to awaken the prodigal’s heart. A heart that has grown dull is one that needs to be revitalized.

We pray that God stirs within them a longing for truth, goodness, and divine connection. We also pray for their ears to be opened. The world is filled with noise, often drowning out the still, small voice of God.

We intercede for the prodigal to discern God's voice amidst the clamor.

We ask God to open their eyes, which have been closed to His wonders and truths. Spiritual blindness prevents them from seeing the reality of their condition and the beauty of God’s mercy.

We pray for understanding. Understanding is crucial for transformation.

We pray that the prodigal not only sees and hears but also comprehends with their heart the depth of God’s love and their need for Him.
Finally, we embrace the promise that if they turn, God will heal them. This healing is comprehensive, covering emotional wounds, broken relationships, and spiritual restoration.

Praying over the prodigal involves a deep trust in God’s power to transform and heal. Matthew 13:15 guides us in understanding the barriers that may exist, but also encourages us with the hope of divine intervention. Our prayers, persistent and heartfelt, can become the catalyst for a prodigal’s return to the Father’s embrace, where true healing and restoration await
Heavenly Father,

I come before You with a heavy heart, lifting up my prodigal who has wandered far from Your loving embrace. I acknowledge the truth of Matthew 13:15, where You spoke of hearts that have grown dull, ears that barely hear, and eyes that have closed. I see this reflected in the life of my prodigal, and I pray for Your divine intervention.

Lord, I ask for perseverance as I pray for their return. Strengthen my faith and resolve, knowing that You are working even when I cannot see it. Awaken their heart, which has become hardened by the distractions and temptations of this world. Stir within them a longing for truth, goodness, and a deep connection with You.

Open their eyes, Father, which have been closed to Your wonders and truths. Remove the scales that blind them to the reality of their condition and the beauty of Your mercy. Let them see the path back to You clearly and unmistakably. I pray for their ears to be opened, Lord. The noise of this world is overwhelming, often drowning out Your still, small voice. I intercede on their behalf, asking that they might discern Your voice amidst the clamor and be drawn back to the path of righteousness.

Grant them understanding, Lord. Help them not only to see and hear but also to comprehend with their heart the depth of Your love and their need for You. May this understanding lead them to a sincere repentance and turning back, recognizing the emptiness of life apart from You and the fullness found in Your presence. Lord I hold tightly to Your promises. When they turn back to You, You have promised to heal them. This healing is not just physical but also emotional and spiritual. Heal their wounds, mend their brokenness, and restore them fully into Your love and grace. I trust Your power to transform lives. Guide my prayers. Encourage me with Your hope.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
What might change in your prayers—and your hope—if you truly believed that God can open their eyes in a single moment, even after years of wandering?
