This journey is rooted in the rhythm of Prayer, Praise, and Promise—a reminder that God is our refuge, our joy, and the faithful Keeper of every soul. As we lift our prodigals before Him, we also allow His Word to strengthen our hearts in the waiting.
Your prayers matter, friend. Your faith is not in vain. The Father still calls His children by name, and His arms remain open. I hope you'll also join us over in the private Prodigal Prayers Facebook group and walk this journey with others who believe in the power of prayer. Let’s begin again today—trusting God together. A Prayer for Turning
Interceding for our prodigal will lead us down a path paved with faith, hope, and steadfast reliance on God's assurances. One of these assurances is found in Ezekiel 33. There we witness the compassionate heart of God as He expresses His desire for the prodigal to turn from their ways and live. The Lord seeks out His lost sheep, extending His hand of mercy and grace to those who have wandered far from Him.
"Again, though I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ yet if he turns from his sin and does what is just and right, if the wicked restores the pledge, gives back what he has taken by robbery,
and walks in the statutes of life, not doing injustice, he shall surely live; he shall not die. None of the sins that he has committed shall be remembered against him. He has done what is just and right; he shall surely live." Ezekiel 33:14-16
As we continue in Ezekiel, chapter 34 paints a vivid picture of God's relentless pursuit of prodigals. Like a faithful shepherd, He gathers His scattered flock, leading them to green pastures and still waters. His love knows no bounds, and He is determined to restore His wayward children to a place of safety and security. Read Ezekiel 34:11-16, 22-24.
Beside Ezekiel 36:26-30, I have written in the margin of my Bible, "pray over the prodigal." This passage serves as a powerful reminder of God's transformative work in the lives of prodigals. Through the prophet Ezekiel, God declares His intention to give prodigals a new heart and a new spirit, removing their heart of stone and replacing it with a heart of flesh. He promises to indwell them with His Spirit, empowering them to walk in His ways and obey His commands. The "I wills" in this passage echo the sovereign power and faithfulness of God. He declares His intention to deliver prodigals from their uncleanness, to bless them abundantly, and to establish His covenant of grace with them. These promises serve as a source of hope and encouragement for those of us who are boldly praying over prodigals, reminding us of God's unwavering love and His ability to bring about transformation in the lives of His children.
"And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes and be careful to obey My rules. You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and you shall be My people, and I will be your God. And I will deliver you from all your uncleannesses…" Ezekiel 36:26-29a
As we lift up our prayers for the prodigals this week, let us cling to the "I will" and "you shall" statements found in Ezekiel's prophecy. Let’s declare with confidence that the prodigal shall dwell in the land, that they shall be God's people, and that they shall experience the fullness of His blessings and provision. May these promises anchor our prayers and inspire us to persevere in bold intercession, trusting that God is faithful to fulfill His word.
Heavenly Father,
Are you anchoring your prayers for your prodigal in God’s “I will” promises, or in what you currently see happening in their life?
