This journey is rooted in the rhythm of Prayer, Praise, and Promise—a reminder that God is our refuge, our joy, and the faithful Keeper of every soul. As we lift our prodigals before Him, we also allow His Word to strengthen our hearts in the waiting.
Your prayers matter, friend. Your faith is not in vain. The Father still calls His children by name, and His arms remain open. I hope you'll also join us over in the private Prodigal Prayers Facebook group and walk this journey with others who believe in the power of prayer. Let’s begin again today—trusting God together. A Prayer for Glory
In this week’s reading from Isaiah 37-39, we encounter Hezekiah, King of Judah, who finds himself in dire circumstances, facing powerful enemies and personal illness. Yet, amidst his desperation, Hezekiah's prayers offer us profound insights into the power of prayer, especially when interceding for prodigals—those who have strayed from the path of faith.
Hezekiah’s first prayer of desperation, recorded in Isaiah 37:14-20, provides a blueprint for our own prayers. Hezekiah spreads the threatening letter from his enemy before the Lord, acknowledging God's sovereignty and power over all nations. He prays fervently for deliverance, not just for his own sake, but so that the world may witness the supremacy of the Lord. As we reflect on Hezekiah’s prayer, we're prompted to consider what we need to spread before the Lord today—prodigals in our lives—the loved ones who have wandered from their faith. Like Hezekiah, we're challenged to offer desperate prayers on their behalf, with the ultimate motivation being the glory of God. In the margin of my Bible, beside Isaiah 37:14-20, I've written "pray over the prodigal." I understand the urgency of interceding for those who have strayed, knowing that my prayers must be desperate and fervent, just as Hezekiah's were. My motivation echoes Isaiah 37:20b. "So...that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone are the Lord." Isaiah 37:20
Hezekiah's second prayer of desperation, found in Isaiah 38, occurs as he faces imminent death. Remarkably, the Lord hears Hezekiah's plea and grants him fifteen more years of life. This miraculous answer to prayer demonstrates God's compassion and attentiveness to our cries, even in our darkest moments. Even in the prodigal’s darkest moments.
Hezekiah's response to his deliverance is profound. He recognizes that his suffering was for his welfare and acknowledges God's love and mercy in delivering him. Despite his physical affliction, Hezekiah's concern for returning to the house of the Lord highlights his deep devotion to God. As we contemplate Hezekiah's story, let us take heart in the assurance that God hears our prayers and petitions for the prodigals. He sees our tears and responds with compassion, grace, and mercy. May we, like Hezekiah, remain steadfast with big, bold prayers, trusting in God's unfailing love and His power to bring restoration and redemption to the life of the prodigals. This week, let’s spread the prodigal before the Lord, praying with desperation and faith, knowing that our prayers are heard and answered according to God’s perfect will. Let’s pray for God’s glory in the story of the prodigal. May we never lose sight of that ultimate goal—the glory of God. May our prodigal come to know God not only with their minds but also with their hearts. May God be glorified through their story! Heavenly Father,
What if the greatest purpose of your prayers for the prodigal isn’t just their return—but that their story would ultimately reveal God’s glory in a way that impacts far beyond your own life?
