“'Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.”'This figure of speech Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what He was saying to them.
In John 10:11, Jesus states, "I AM the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep."
This passage encapsulates several key aspects of His character and mission:
As Jesus speaks, the Pharisees are divided in their response. Later in this passage, we read where some of them even accuse Him of being demon-possessed and insane, while others recognize the divine authority in His words. This division highlights the challenge of accepting Jesus' seemingly radical claims and the obvious transformative nature of His message.
Jesus' declaration as the Good Shepherd offers timeless lessons and applications for our lives:
Jesus' declaration, "I AM the Good Shepherd," is a beautiful and comforting promise. It reassures us of His sacrificial love, intimate knowledge, and constant guidance. As we navigate the complexities of life, we can find peace and security in the care of our Good Shepherd. Let us trust Him, follow His lead, and share His love with those around us, knowing that we are safe and cherished in His fold.
How does recognizing Jesus as "the Good Shepherd," who intimately knows and sacrifices for His flock, change the way you trust and follow Him in your daily life?

I think what I love more than almost anything in studying the 7 I AMs is the close connection between Jesus being the DOOR and the GOOD SHEPHERD. The imagery is just gorgeous!

I completely agree, Michele!! :) The connection between Jesus as the DOOR and the GOOD SHEPHERD is truly beautiful and profound. The imagery of Him being both our protector and guide, the One who provides safety and leads us to abundant life, is so comforting! It reminds us that we are secure in His care and that He is always watching over us. Thank you for sharing this insight—it adds such a rich layer to our understanding of His love for us!

One of the things I love about this passage is the contrast between our good shepherd and hired workers, wolves, robbers, and thieves.

You're absolutely right, Debbie!! The contrast in this passage is so powerful. It highlights how deeply Jesus cares for us as the Good Shepherd—willing to lay down His life for the sheep—unlike the hired hands who abandon the flock at the first sign of danger. It's a beautiful reminder of His sacrificial love and the security we have in Him, knowing that He protects and guides us with unmatched devotion.
