1. The Song of Moses (Exodus 15:1-18)
This triumphant song was sung by Moses and the Israelites after God miraculously delivered them from Egypt by parting the Red Sea. It celebrates God’s unmatched power, faithfulness, and victory over their enemies: “The Lord is my strength and my defense; He has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise Him, my father’s God, and I will exalt Him” (Exodus 15:2). This song stands as a reminder of God’s faithfulness in delivering His people and His sovereignty over creation and nations. 2. The Song of Hannah (1 Samuel 2:1-10) Hannah’s prayer is a heartfelt expression of gratitude after God answers her fervent request for a child. Her song exalts God’s sovereignty, justice, and care for the humble: “The Lord brings death and makes alive; He brings down to the grave and raises up. The Lord sends poverty and wealth; He humbles and He exalts” (1 Samuel 2:6-7). This song is a testament to God’s ability to reverse circumstances and His care for those who depend on Him. 3. The Psalms The Book of Psalms is a rich tapestry of prayers intended to be sung, offering a wide range of emotions and themes. Some notable examples include:
4. The Song of Deborah and Barak (Judges 5) Following their victory over the Canaanites, Deborah and Barak sang this prayer of praise. It recounts God’s deliverance and the courage of His people: “When the princes in Israel take the lead, when the people willingly offer themselves—praise the Lord” (Judges 5:2)! This song serves as a reminder of God’s power to save and the importance of faithful leadership.
5. The Song of Mary (Magnificat) (Luke 1:46-55)
After learning she would give birth to the Savior, Mary responds with this beautiful prayer of praise. It reflects on God’s faithfulness, mercy, and the reversal of human pride: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for He has been mindful of the humble state of His servant” (Luke 1:46-48). Mary’s song connects her experience to God’s redemptive work for all generations. 6. The Song of Zechariah—Benedictus—(Luke 1:68-79) Zechariah, filled with the Holy Spirit, sings this prophetic prayer of praise after the birth of his son, John the Baptist. He glorifies God for fulfilling His promises and preparing the way for salvation: “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because He has come to His people and redeemed them (Lk. 1:68). This song highlights God’s faithfulness, bringing light to those in darkness. 7. The Song of the Angels (Luke 2:14) When Jesus was born, a host of angels proclaimed this short yet powerful song of praise: “Glory to God in the highest Heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests” (Luke 2:14). This angelic hymn highlights the joy and peace that Jesus’ birth brings to the world. 8. The Song of the Redeemed (Revelation 5:9-10; 15:3-4) In Revelation, we glimpse heavenly worship through these powerful prayers of praise sung by the redeemed: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because You were slain, and with Your blood You purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation” (Revelation 5:9). These songs glorify the Lamb for His sacrifice and celebrate the ultimate victory of God’s Kingdom.

Love this, and know for sure that sung words are way more sticky to my brain than spoken words, so I love that some ancient songs found their way into the pages of my Bible!
