Why It Still Matters
The woes of Matthew 23 aren’t just a scathing rebuke—they’re a mirror for self-examination. Jesus isn’t condemning all religious leaders; He’s exposing spiritual pride, hypocrisy, and a heart disconnected from God. As believers today, we’re not immune to these dangers. In fact, the more we grow in knowledge and influence, the more susceptible we become to pride, pretense, and spiritual complacency. Let’s take this to heart:
These woes call us to return—not to empty rituals, but to relationship. Not to outward displays, but to inward devotion. May we heed the warning, examine ourselves, and walk humbly with our God.
In what ways might you be prioritizing outward religious habits over the inward transformation Jesus desires?
