4 Reasons Christians Should Proclaim the Gospel

"Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain." Philippians 2:14-16

Not too long ago, someone asked me a straightforward but important question: “Do you believe it’s the responsibility of every Christian to proclaim the Gospel?” My answer was equally straightforward: Yes. Biblically speaking, it is the responsibility of every believer to share the Good News. That doesn’t mean everyone will do it in the same way, but the call is for all of us to participate. 

Today, let's look at four reasons I believe it is every Christian's responsibility to proclaim the Good News of the Gospel:

1. The Great Commission Is for Every Disciple
   In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus gives His followers this command: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations… teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” This wasn’t spoken only to the apostles — it was given to all followers of Jesus. The church’s mission is to spread the Good News, and since we are each a part of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12-27), we each have a role to play.
   
   
2. We Are Christ’s Ambassadors
   Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 5:18-20: “God… gave us the ministry of reconciliation… We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us.” Notice the word us. Every believer has been entrusted with representing Christ to the world. It’s not a calling we can pass along to someone else.
   
   
3. The Gospel Is Shared in Word and Deed
   ​Not all of us will stand behind a pulpit or travel to another country, but Acts 1:8 calls every Christian to be a witness. For some, this means preaching or teaching. For others, it’s sharing over coffee with a friend, writing words that point to Christ, serving the needy, or living in such a way that people see Jesus through our actions (Philippians 2:14-16).
   
   
4. Silence Contradicts Love
   If we truly believe that salvation is found only in Christ (Acts 4:12), then keeping the Gospel to ourselves is unloving. Proverbs 24:11 says: “Rescue those being led away to death.” Love compels us to speak — even when it’s uncomfortable.

Proclaiming the Gospel is not just the pastor’s job. It’s the mission of every believer. While the way we share will vary depending on our gifts, circumstances, and opportunities, the responsibility is the same: make Christ known. Whether through words, actions, or both, every day is an opportunity to shine the light of Jesus into a world that desperately needs Him.
