10 Ways to Love Like Jesus

In John 13:34-35, Jesus gives His disciples a new and profound command:

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

This call to love as Jesus loves was not just for the disciples of that day, it is also for us as well. It is both simple and challenging commandment

How can we emulate the perfect love of Jesus Christ in our daily lives?

The Bible offers us numerous examples of how God expresses love, and how we can draw from these examples to guide our own actions.

10 Ways to Love Like Jesus:

1. Creative Love
   God’s Example: God lovingly created us in His image (Genesis 1:27). He breathed life into humanity, giving us a unique place in creation (Genesis 2:7).
   Our Response: We can love others by honoring the unique image of God in every person, encouraging their spiritual growth, and helping them realize their God-given potential.
   
   
2. Covenant Love
   God’s Example: God established covenants with His people, such as with Noah (Genesis 9:8-17) and Abraham (Genesis 17:7), promising faithfulness and love.
   Our Response: We can commit to loving others faithfully, keeping our promises, and being reliable in our relationships, whether in marriage, friendship, the workplace, or our community.
   
   
3. Faithful Love
   God’s Example: God remains faithful through generations, showing steadfast love to His children (Deuteronomy 7:9; Lamentations 3:22-23).
   Our Response: We can be consistent and dependable in our love, standing by others in the good and bad times, standing in the gap with others when needed, just as God stands by us.
   
   
4. Disciplinary Love
   God’s Example: God disciplines and reproves those He loves for their spiritual growth and well-being (Proverbs 3:12; Hebrews 12:6).
   Our Response: We can lovingly correct and guide others when necessary, helping them grow spiritually and in character and faith, always with their best interest at heart.
   
   
5. Saving Love
   God’s Example: God sent Jesus to save us from our sins (John 3:16; Romans 5:8; 1 John 4:9-10).
   Our Response: We should be pointing others to the saving grace of Jesus Christ, sharing the Gospel, and helping them experience the love and forgiveness of God.
   
   
6. Protective Love
   God’s Example: God is our protector and refuge (Psalm 23; Psalm 91).
   Our Response: We can protect and care for those around us, offering them safety, support, and encouragement, especially in their times of need.
   
   
7. Compassionate Love
   God’s Example: Jesus had compassion on the crowds, healing the sick and feeding the hungry (Matthew 9:36; Matthew 14:14).
   Our Response: We can show compassion by being sensitive to the needs of others, providing comfort, practical help, serving, and emotional support.
   
   
8. Sacrificial Love
   God’s Example: Jesus sacrificed His life for us (John 15:13; Ephesians 5:2).
   Our Response: We can love sacrificially by putting others' needs before our own, whether it’s through giving of our time, resources, or energy for their spiritual and physical well-being.
   
   
9. Serving Love
   God’s Example: Jesus served His disciples by washing their feet (John 13:1-5; Mark 10:45).
   Our Response: We can serve others humbly, without seeking recognition, following Jesus' example of leadership through service.
   
   
10. Enduring Love
    God’s Example: God’s love endures forever, and nothing can separate us from it (Romans 8:38-39; Jeremiah 31:3).
    Our Response: We can love others with a love that perseveres, being patient, forgiving, and enduring in our relationships, even when challenges arise, even when it is complicated.
